741 yoke, 10 spline vs. 29 spline

Ordered (online) a new 3.73 ring and pinion for my 741 case. Opened it up and found a 29 spline pinion, opposite of the existing10 spline yoke I was planning on using. New pinion has 7/8" thread and larger lock nut than the 10 spline.
The question is, can I get a 29 spline yoke that uses the same universal, or will the new yoke also require a universal with bigger caps?
Any help would be appreciated.

Measure the yoke on the inside of the saddles.
2 1/8 or 2 5/8 across

what is the date on those straps?

Numbers on strap are "0 28 78".
Measurement is 2-1/8".

You have 2 1/8", 7260 yoke/u joint with 10 splines. That one uses the smaller nut on pinion 1 1/8 hex. The 29 spline will use the larger 1 1/4" nut. As mentioned above you can get them in either size. The yokes can go on any case as long as spline count matches.
Usually the 489 cases are 29 spline, but not a hard fast rule. I think the yokes work on the 9.25 rears also, not 100 % on that.

So you need a small yoke fine spline. Never seemed too rare to me.

Your yoke looks like a 7260 u-joint. The dr diff 7290 you will need a combination u-joint if you go that way. 7260 to 7290 Conversion U-Joint

I would upgrade to the 7290 2 5/8 yoke if you are already buying one and use a criss cross u joint with 7260 2 1/8 to 7290 2 5/8 to mate to your existing driveshaft. If you ever need to upgrade driveshaft you already have the pinion yoke in place.
The ears on a 7260 driveshaft side will only take a pounding for a while then the caps will loosen.
I just had to replace my Charger's driveshaft this year. Drove all last year with the caps tacked in place. I have never had a issue with the 7290 joints in my Challenger.
