I picked up a 742 case 3rd member when I got my recent acquisition (1970 B-body housing with axles) for my 64 Polara -- the guy gave me an empty 742 case with caps and adjusters but no guts. I know about building diffs in theory - but never built one in person. Anything crazy or odd I should know about with the 742? I know that the 489 uses a crush sleeve but I believe the 742 just uses shims to set pinion depth?
I already have a 489 case with a 3.91SG in a bucket - the Charger has a 3.55SG in it now - going to be swapping to the 3.91s when I do the 6-speed swap but not sure if the 3.55s will be best for the Polara... which is getting a 440 with an 8-71... thinking maybe 3.23s would be better? opinions?
IF I decided to get rid of it - what is the 742 case worth?
