Check for throttle shaft play on the primaries. A warped bowl should not cause a fuel leak. Vacuum leak yes. Check the carb needle and seats. Also the floats. The plastic ones are known to absorb fuel and sink. It is better to switch to brass floats. I do not know if they are still available. Rochester quadrajet or a Holley spread bore will bolt to the intake but will require some linkage adjustment. These things are not known for good gas mileage. Feel lucky if it gets 8 mpg.
