8 3/4 Axle issues

The inner plate sets on the bearing. No need for the outer plate. But it's just double stacked. That wouldn't keep the axle from setting deep enough. I used an early B body tapered axle housing with standard flange axles long ago. The housing wasn't bored deep enough to allow the axle to fully seat. After removing the inner seals it worked fine. However in this case it appears the axles are to short. If they set in deeper? Then the flange wouldn't line up with the brakes.

If the bearing was not on all the way how can the rotor fit properly?

I removed the shiny retainer plate and inner seal from the housing and gained 1/8 " that's about 1/4" total into the second set of splines of the sure grip. Next up are the bearings and collar pressed all the way on.

That shiny spacer is designed to take the place of the backing plate on disc conversions. Once you get your axles going in all the way those spacers should be in place to keep everything aligned as designed. If the thrust block is in place in the carrier, your bearings will have serious pressure on them when you try to tighten up the retainers, if those spacers are not in place.
