If you have an ld housing that is no good, cut the axle tubes off and weld some angle iron to it to hold it steady and bingo, center section storage solved.

I made some boxes from 3/4 plywood for mine and they look nearly just as good as the molded ones....and if you want the 3rd member to stay in the box if it turns over, you can install a couple of lag screws but so far, never had one to turn over. Works very well but mine do not have a cover. Are you wanting to carry a spare or do you plan on testing with various gear ratios?

I just used regular plywood surfaced one side....marine plywood ain't cheap but if you only need to make one or two then it won't break the bank. I had 6 boxes made at one point but shipped a couple and a 'buddy' 'borrowed' one about 10 years ago and still has it. And these days I don't even try and pick one up. A two wheel dolly is my friend lol
