8-3/4 housing doesn't sit flat

I have a 64 Belvedere I put new SS springs in with correct front hangers. My question is when I put housing on center bolts one perch lays flat other side has gap. Shouldn't both perches lay flat on springs? When I install u-bolts everything pulls together. I tried 2 different housing same thing on both. Is this normal with SS springs because of extra leave? The springs are new 456/457. Thanks Mike

IMO...
The passenger side spring pack had 5 leaves plus 2 half leaves facing forward and the driver's side dpring pack has 6 leaves....at least what my RS23V0A GTX has with a Dana 60 housing.

I thought the number of springs are probably the reason. Just wondering if anyone else noticed the same thing.
 
I would measure the drop of the arch of the spring on both sides. Measure up from the spring center bolt up to the arch of the unibody arch. I know SS cars usually sat a little caddie wampus. But even with that said I would think the rear end would sit flush on both perches.
 
Are you sure your front is square to the floor ?
 
Same happened on mind. Bolt the u bolts down and it squeezes tight. My pinion and and geometry was all good afterwards, no worries.
 
I have the same 456/457 springs, but i cant say i noticed that problem. I did, however, have to use tapered shims to get the pinion angle where i wanted it.
 
We’re the perches welded on at different angles? I’ve seen it before (the space on one side) once bolted down, that draws it in. Was never an issue.
 
It’s really only an 1/8” each side once you tighten everything up. I’d just go with it the way it is or put a wedge in it.

If that’s the route that you have chosen just make sure that it’s the rear end that’s off and not a spring that’s off. Once the rear end is out put blocks under the spring perches to check to see if they are parallel to each other. If they are your problem is elsewhere.
