OK well I swear this rear end was in the car when I pulled it out although it was all loose as it had just been thrown in to roll the car onto a car tailor was told it wasn't original to car but was out of similar car.

Mean while I have sand blasted it and painted it with epoxy and try to install it and it won't slide over center bolt hole like it should.

Whats the deal? did some one just cut the bolt off?

that doesnt look like a spring centering bolt...looks like a spacer with a regular bolt through it. probably just go big of diameter. You can pick up centering bolts from some autoparts stores and any spring shop.

also, if the rearend was in the car before, are you sure it was mounted on the center hole? The front and rear hole are usually a bit bigger...would just change the wheelbase by an inch or so.

Yup. Spring pack bolts have a round head, not hex. You could drill the holes out on the perches and never have a problem.

The last time I saw a spring eye bolt like that was on a c-body.

C-body springs

Seems like your the one who got rolled :icon_puke_l:

i would just get a new centering bolt. that looks a bit like an iso clamp setup

Thanks guys
Not sure How I will Proceed now.
I have another parts car with another 8 3/4 housing with springs the housing was from a 71 charger I may just swap out housing with that one.
About the springs are these springs usable then in this car? they bolted in? the spring in the parts car were kinda soft as I remember.

I think if you measure the bolt you will find its to long also..its going to hit the housing and there shouldn't be a washer there. Just put the right pins in and be done with it.

I don't know.....I JUST got my S/S springs in for my Coronet a couple of days ago and the alignment nipples are pretty long.

See how I worked in long nipples?

This is exactly what my original 73 Roadrunner springs look like, and is correct for that year and make, as 73 Roadrunner springs were a "one off" year, meaning they only fit 73RR and not compatible with eariler or later years, and this bolt would fit into the spring isolators. So, if this is earlier car, then it may not be correct as your axle pearches do not have the larger center hole for isolators.

I have another 73 as a Parts car out front and I pulled its 8 1/4 out years ago and put the 71 8 3/4 rear end housing in it, But the centering bolt was caged in the old 8 1/4 rear housing I took out and it was caged in the housing 8 3/4 housing I installed years ago.

I remember I had to do a Partial disassemble of the springs to remove or install the housings before as the centering bolts were caged in the housings.

So now with these spring the centering bolt is still in the spring and My housing doesn't have a caged centering bolt???? HMMMMMM

Remember, that isolator spring crappola started in 73. I'm sure that has something to do with it. Since they aren't rusted all to hell and back, the best thing to do might be to get some earlier centering bolts.

Wow this should not be this big of a discussion. Either go buy a smaller centering bolt which fits in your axle housing or drill the hole larger to fit your current centering bolt. Seems like it would be silly to worry about swapping to another rear end over a bolt size. The u-bolts do the holding of the leaf spring and the centering bolt is there mostly to hold in the proper location. A smaller pin will not hurt anything nor will making that hole larger. though making the hole larger eliminates the option of selling the rearend later or putting a smaller centering pin in...my vote head to the local store, spend a few bucks and get the proper pin, 25 minutes later you can have it rolling around.

I couldn't have said it better. Small problem really. Minute even.

Its easy to replace the pin. Make sure you use a couple of strong c clamps when changing the pin. That will make it a simple job. Good luck!
