Looks like one of my drums is knackered so I'm looking at replacement part options or a disc brake upgrade.

When it comes to the shoes and drums on offer, what has people's experience been? Is there a preferred brand based on quality? Bendix, raybesto's, etc?

The rear's don't do all that much of the braking so I was happy to leave the rears as drums, but is there a good value basic disc upgrade worth considering? If I change, id like one that can retain a stock style e-brake set up, i.e. Cable. I'm assuming if need to change the master cylinder as well?

Thanks guys!

I'm assuming that you are talking about your '68 Coronet that has flanged axles and not an earlier tapered axle rear. I would stay with the drums in the rear. I personally don't think the small amount of added braking power that you get from doing a rear disc conversion is with the $ and labor unless you are racing or otherwise driving the car really hard. I would just replace the drums and shoes and go with it, but that's me. I usually get my brake parts at NAPA and I've had good luck with them. I think that they are made by Raybestos. I don't know if you have NAPA stores down under but you should be able to find Raybestos parts locally. Good luck whatever you decide.

No NAPA here and no local support for these cars in a 'mainstream' parts store. Looking at ordering the parts in from rock or summit, but the breadth of brands made me wonder which brand was good quality.

Thanks for the reply, you pretty much confirmed what I was thinking!

If you would like to go with disc brakes, contact http://www.doctordiff.com/
I just built a complete 8 3/4 for a customer and used his rear disc brake kit and was surprised at how straight forward and simple it was plus when you call his shop, you'll usually talk to Cass himself.
