I picked this unit up from someone who removed it from a trunk in 79. Anyone know if its factory or dealer item? It weighs 8.5 lbs and has no door. I did find one pic online, but no info. Thanks all!

whats odd is it says mopar on it,not chrysler dodge plymouth
that would make me think dealer?
the shape of the unit almost reminds me of the early Van ones?
but
all i could find was a brief lil blurb.

The 8-Track, or “Stereo 8” as it is more properly called, actually predates the seventies. Developed as a format in the sixties by Richard Kraus for a group of people led by Bill Lear (of Lear Jet fame), it was an evolution of an older technology sometimes called the 4-Track.

Thanks BeatersRus, I tried googling a few different ways, still nada. A few old threads are out there with the photos deleted now. Here's the wiring end, looks factory.

I agree, never seen a production run piece without the division badge on it. The Mopar was always the parts division. Dealer installed option?
