hi guys. a topic off of cars for a minute. I am recently back in my house after a year hiatus( dont ask)... and finally tossing the drug dealers that were renting my place OUT! THE WEATHER WAS BEAUTIFUL. I trimmed bushes, cut the grass, planted some grass seed where the moron renters parked all over my yard WHEN I HAVE A DRIVEWAY YOU CAN PARK 6 CARS IN......but i digress. today ( drum roll please)....I BOUGHT A GRILL!

Man,,,theres nuthin like grillin out on your own back patio. the sizzle of a good DelMonico steak just pink inside, a baked potato( on the grill of course). all i was missing was potato salad. theres something to be said about being the king of your own castle...and resident GRILL-MASTER !

I have found over the years that cleaning your grill is a big NO-NO. have you ever gone over someones house for a cook out and just could not get into the flavor of the food. my guess is they clean their grill. I use my grills until they fall apart....then just go get another one without cleaning any of them not even once. i average about 2 years per grill (propane, as if you needed to ask) . Looking out over a freshly cut lawn, nicely trimmed bushes .( yeah i know we all love a nicely trimmed bush).... sucking down a gorgeous steak (in my case 2 ).. 80 degree weather, sun shining brightly and the soft silhouette of my 1970 Road Runner nestled in its resting place as seen through the plexiglas window of my barn. Spring is here ladies and gentlemen...FIRE UP THOSE GRILLS , SLAP A NICE MEATY STEAK DOWN ON IT AND LETS EAT!:hello2::headbang::hello2::headbang::hello2::headbang::hello2::headbang:

I have a couple of Old Smokies and a home made pit made from pipe that was split down the center then added 7" wide flat plate to make it oval shaped. The fire box was done the same way. Lots of time and welding but I like it. The Old Smokies are garage/estate sale ones for like 10 bucks each, one small and one medium size. I just cooked my first brisket of the year in the pit. Didn't season or shoot it up....just threw it in for about 2 hours at 300 then wrapped it up in tin foil and cooked at 200 for the next 9 hours. Man, not bad at all. I love to grille and cook in the pit but my wife isn't that fond of BBQed food cooked with wood so I try and cook with wood that's a bit seasoned so there's less smoke....

Yup the weather up in the "Great White North" has been a bit odd lately. No good for fruit trees and their farmers, but enjoyable for pretty much everyone else.

I too bought a grill recently, even though where I am in SoCal, it hasn't really been that warm yet. And I totally agree with NOT cleaning the grill. When I get a new grill I try to get mine nicely seasoned by cooking some greasy/saucy stuff the first couple times, seems to work well. Much like Dutch Oven "Seasoning".

Man you guys are making my mouth water... "I do love a nice trimmed bush, that's for damn sure", Now I'm going to have to grill some big a$$ T-Bones, on the Big Weber over charcol brickets, for me & Pops tonight...

Great story, tpodwdog. I myself cook on a classic Weber, one that was given to me by my father. He bought it in the eighties, when the handles were still made of wood. When I moved back to CA, he told me he was throwing it out since he's a vegan, or vegetarian, or some pitiful specimen who doesn't eat meat, much less grill. I said "Hell no you're not throwing that bad boy out!" and I grabbed it up. Been cooking on it for 4 years, barely cleaned it, and the sucker works great! It looks pretty weathered, crusty as hell- food tastes great on it!

God damn, I gotta get my grillin' tools out and start cooking!

I have found over the years that cleaning your grill is a big NO-NO.

That's the secret to life right there! :) My great-grandmother was straight-up Pennsylvania Dutch, and she would never clean her bakeware. You used it, then let whatever residue was left dry and harden, and then fire the pan again. Same with great-grandpa's grilling. Never, ever, clean the grill. I'm like you... I use them until they fall apart, but never clean them.

Aint nothing wrong about burning some meat on fire. Seems women love to shop, tell their stories to their friends etc. Us men? Cars, beer, guns and grilling!
Some folk call it BBQ-ing BUT; that is an insult to the men who really BBQ.
(a whole different ball game and difficult to master) Grilling is primal, it's in our DNA. God Bless to all who GRILL!
:happy8:

Even though I live in the north I use my grill year round, steaks, chicken, chops, ribs...everything!

I knew i wasnt alone in my convictions for the love for good food. Primal is a perfect description of the inner desire to flame broil the perfect steak. heres a few things i make on the grill. try em, you wont be disapointed:

take a london broil and soak it in seven seas italian dressing. take 2 forks and stab the hell out of it getting all the delicious flavor deep inside . keep in the fridge for 2 days covered in saran wrap( not foil). Fire up your culinary weapon blazing hot. slap that london broil on there on high and sear each side. turn the heat down to about 350, and slow cook that baby for about an hour and a half...turning every so often....when done , pull it off the grill and let sit for about 10 minutes. slice on a diagonal..( careful not to drool all over it ).. and VOILA.... the best piece of meat youll ever shove in your mouth.

cut up some potatoes about 1 inch square ( skin on ).... and place them on a huge piece of foil. add hidden valley ranch dry mix....one packet. throw on some real butter....real bacon bits .. .( cooked earlier)... a big slab of sour cream. wrap it in the foil so nothing leaks out when its cooking. cook on grill for about 45 minutes.MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM........ thats good eating right there...no wonder im pushin 270....lmao bon appetite !

Luck dog we are having good weather but still recovering from my shoulder surgery can't flip the steaks with the other hand lol

And to finish it off you get a half dozen ears of corn, clean them and soak them in water for an hour. Wrap slices of bacon around them and wrap them in foil and put them on the back of the grill for about an hour. The water steams the corn while the bacon just cooks the flavor through the ear.

MMMMMM.....steak. ive got a Niagara Falls drool goin' on over here.

cant wait to bring home some fresh cut steaks (done by my hand, thank you very much lol)

and sizzle those bastards up...

now my only problem is, what cut do i want!!!
