833 syncros

I tried it for awhile in a Muncie and didn’t observe any issues on the street other than the aluminum case took on a shiny glaze like it was permeated with something. But I went back to dino lube eventually to be safe.

I'm not a big Pennzoil fan but I use their Synchromesh lube in my 833 with good results.

My .02 cents from an old timer at a NAPA I overheard talking about synthetic oil in older motors. Older motors do not have the tight tolerances of today’s motors and they don’t tolerate synthetic oil like new motors can. Makes sense to me and I would say that applies to trannys as well.

I'm interested in this as well. Are you asking because of the ridiculous price of gl-4 fluids? I was going to recommend Sta Lube 85w90 but the price on this crap is outrageous!

$77.99 at napaonline for a gallon. I checked my order history at amazon and it was $29 bucks the two times i bought in 2016 and 2021. Talk about inflation.

I have read that stock synchro rings don't like synthetic fluid. They need oil bleed grooves cut in them to work properly. Brewers sell the 70 up style with the grooves in them.

I have the newer synchros in there. I remember hearing something about synthetic lube not having enough friction to help the synchros engage. That's why the question. The trans seems to be pretty stiff to shift, I was wondering if that was the problem.

GL-5 gear lubes do not like yellow metals like brass.

The GM Syncromesh fluid seems to work well in most transmissions. I used it in my Triumph TR3 without issue and I drove the hell out of it.

Mobil makes all of the GM Syncromesh stuff in their Texas refinery...every last drop no matter the label.

I bought some 140wt GL-4 last year for $8 a gallon....a closeout from a small local oil jobber. I use it in early Ford transmissions.
