What type of manual transmission and bell housing was used for small blocks in a 70 bbody? Would a 340 bell housing work with a 833 transmission? Was there a difference in transmission’s for sb and bb? Meaning was there an 833 for bb and a different one for sb?

I "think" the transmissions are the same, A-833 for the 4-speed (3-speed manual also available). I "think" all the small block 4-speeds originally came with the smaller input shaft bearing retainer (small hole going into bellhousing) and are 23-spline A-833's with a 10-1/2" clutch

I don't know how much difference there is between the SB truck and car engine's, but I have the original bell housing, and 3-spd manual transmission here on a shelf. These came out of my '75 B200, when I swapped in an auto. It's a bit tight in there now with winter storage, but I can probably get numbers, pics, or measurements later this week.

Watching this one. I’ve got the same questions

As far as fitting your bellhousing is concerned the only thing that matters is the bearing retainer size. 440s and hemis used 18 spline input shafts, all others were 23. There were different ratios depending on year etc, but they will all bolt to your bellhousing if the retainer size is right. You will have to have the right clutch disc for the spline count.

Personally I don't see a problem... while are 68-70 b bodies didn't come with small blocks and 4-speeds, 70 E bodies did. On my 68 charger, 318 car my original plan was to change it to a 340 4-speed. I had everything from a 70 cuda to do it. While I never actually did it ...seemed like it would have worked just fine

Aren't the tailshafts different and location for the shifter?

Nope... 70 4-speed has both mounts. OP wants to know for a 70 b body. Use 70 small block bell, 70 10.5" flywheel, 70 4 speed using the front b body shifter mount, 70 b body shifter
