Truck was running fine, then it died from having no charge to the battery. I tested the wire coming off the alternator and had no voltage (big black single wire) I took to autozone and they tested it and it said bad on tester. I replaced with new one. Put back on and have voltage there and also have voltage on the 2 small terminals (fields) on back of alternator. Have voltmeter hooked up on battery while truck is running once I jump start it with another car. and you can see voltage drop once I take jumper cables off battery from other car then truck dies. What other component would cause truck not to charge or do I have a bad replacement alternator from Autozone. I have not taken off the new alternator and taken back to Auotzone for a test.

Check your grounds. I had a 84 that quit charging and it was due to a ground wire. Make sure engine & chassis have good grounds
