1) What was the diameter of the fan and the number of blades in a stock 440 in a 68 Charger R/T?

2) How close should the end of the fan blade be to the fan shroud for maximum effectiveness?

A curiosity question......does the car have A/C or not.....auto trans or automatic....max cooling pkg....or final gear ratio.....usually these factor into the cooling system specs and what the car was built with. Do you have a copy of the broadcast sheet or fender tag....those will help in the determination..... Just talking out loud.....

A/C, automatic, 3:55 but don’t know if that’s original. No bs or tag.

440 automatics with A/C used a 2898047 26" radiator, #2785434 plastic fan shroud, 1985513 18.5" seven blade fan with 2.5" pitch, & thermal clutch fan #2658456.

Most RB engines with A/C used a 26" wide radiator, shroud, and 7 blade steel fan assembly, usually at 18" diameter, with a THERMAL DRIVE fan clutch (temp sensing element in radiator side of clutch), over drive belt drive fan & water pump arrangement (water pump and fan spin faster than crankshaft RPM for optimum low speed cooling), at typically 0.9 ratio. The fan is set back, so the fan blade vertical centerline is approximately half way out of the shroud, for maximum air flow thru the radiator. The fender tag will tell some of the information, but the broadcast sheet would tell all. Since you mentioned that you have neither, what is the first digits of the VIN? XS23.... or. WP23..... or all the digits less the last 6 numbers....to try and get closer to your car....

It has a 7 blade fan, 18" I believe. 26" three core aluminum rad. The fan shroud has the penta star logo and number P2998326. The fan sits about half in the shroud and I have 1 1/4" space between the end of the fan blade and the shroud which seems like a lot to me. Is it possible I have the wrong shroud?

VIN starts XS29L8G

Closest to shroud without touching better. But 1" is max.
