Hey all .
As some have followed along i have been doing some travelling and following our national series #nationaldragracingchampionship
After plenty of miles travelled i earned entry to the grand final as Eastern Conference Champion .
So it was off to Dragway @ the Bend in South Australia again , 14 1/2 hr haul . It was to be a double event . Friday then Sat/ Sun for grand final . Well Thursday night there was lightening , gale force winds and 1 1/2" of sideways rain . I looked out of my tent and pulled the pillow over my head . So rain continued and Friday is postponed .
Saturday dawned clear and drybut blowing a gale . So as a bonus there was a 2 hr t&t before 3 rounds of qualifying . I finished at #2 of 9 car field .
Now dont forget this is a winner take all final. All racers start on zero points.
Sunday dawns sunny and only a light breeze . 4 rounds of eliminations . Not killer on tree but solid footbraking Plymouth is rock solid and screaming .
We are racing around grp 1 top fuel , funny car , doorslammer .
1st round . Burnout and stage . Yeo feels right . I leave , WTF ! Ive got my hand on shifter and pull straight into 2nd ! CRAP !
Look up track . Ive got the winlight , Tony went red ! Thats my lucky mulligan . Phew
Rnd 2 . Got a bye . Got my act together 10.288.
Semi final . Got #1 qualifier , Craig another Sydney racer . He sleeps on the tree i take the win easy on brakes .
Finals . Chicka dials .30 off his qual tume tells me he has hurt motor . Ok . Stick to my game plan . Another ok light for me . I look up after 1-2 shift . Hot damn my winlight is on . Chicka pushed it red and admitted he was worried he had to be super sharp to get over me .
Freakin amazing . This was a quiet held dream .
Australian #1 in Super Street .
Damn surreal .

Congratulations, Tex. An amazing accomplishment for anybody, let alone us old guys...

Awesome! Good for you man!! That's alot of dedication, the win is proof- of- concept!!

Great job Tex! What a feeling that must be seeing the win light!

Way to go. Anybody that's been in this game knows that even on your best days cutting .00x lights you can still get beat. The key to a win is to be better than your opponent. You did that. Congrats

That and getting your car to the line every round.

I’m curious as to what precautions you take for those long hauls, I’m guessing a lot of it is through sparsely populated areas.
Do you carry a lot of spare parts and tools?

I don’t like dragging my junk more than a couple of hours from home.

Ya gotta run to win, putting fear in the other lane WORKS (red lights) and saves on the gear too!!!
CONGRATS

thanks everyone . its been a great couple of days . Been lots of help and encouragement here .

Padam , racing a Plymouth means there is no parts ready available here . So I carry general tools . And a few parts , v/c gaskets , intake gaskets, plugs leads , belts , 2 spare axles , front w bearings , alternater , waterpumps, fuel pump even a crank pulley after 1 came off . Any more its on the trailer .
And yes there is a lot of nothing between towns especially going west to Sunset Strip or the Bend . Big worry at dusk & dawn with kangas and emus .
