One of my 68 Chargers is in need of seat foam replacement on the bottoms of both bucket seats. . When looking them up online, I found that both Legendary & Summit offer them and judging by the pictures on both websites, they look identical .....

....however, there is a considerable price difference. I had bought them from Legendary a few years ago & was happy with them, but like everyone, I'm looking to save a buck, plus, I figured how many different companies can be making the same product? So I went with the ones from Summit and when they came in, I stripped one seat bottom and proceeded to install one. Stretching & fastening the seat skin back down seemed harder than I remembered, but I got it on, but when I put the seat back in the car and sat on it, it was hard as a rock. At that point, I realized that I screwed myself, so I bit the bullet and ordered another set from Legendary.

The Legendary covers just came in today & other than a slight color difference, they look identical, BUT the foam on the Summit foam is very dense and it weighs twice as much. Below are pictures of the Summit foam on the left & the Legendary foam is on the right.

I'm going to do both seats tomorrow & I have no doubt that it will go much better with Legendary's foams. Tomorrow is also trash day & the Summit foams will be put out to the curb. I now know why the Summit foams are so cheap & why Legendary's are so much more and I urge everyone here to learn from my mistake.

Summit foams are cheap because they are heavier material?

Legendary has always had the reputation for the best foam. Several upholstery shops I talked to says it's the best. It's what I bought for the '62 buckets. You pay a premium for it but the old saying...

Yeah, previous owner of Fred re-did the buckets with the foam from Summit. Now, all these years later, they're
disintegrating slowly and leave little piles underneath like a mouse got into 'em (they didn't).
There's different, cheaper compositions of foam out there - some are "drier", harder, less supple and they're
the ones that fall apart, according to the upholstery guy in town.

Who would want them after my write up?
Offer them up for free, maybe a young gun just starting out, or some one who doesn't have the spare cash right now would love to have them. It would be better than sitting on bare springs.

Thanks for the info... I bought new covers & foam from Legendary about a year ago... The foam showed up in about a week.... The covers took a "little" longer.... Got them all together last week but haven't installed them yet....

I used Legendary foam & covers in the red car close to thirty years ago... Still look new & soooo much more comfortable than the seats in the green car... So I finally broke down & redid the seats for the green car...

This^^^^^

Just ask for shipping. Guaranteed someone will take them, or make garage chairs out of them.

I found the same for a seat cushion for my 1998 ram. Ebay sells them, they are very stiff. I removed them and found decent used ones from local you pull it yard.

Good info as I had wondered about alternate-Legendary seat foam.

For Dadsbee:

Legendary has some good videos on their website.

Installation Videos

There is one on foam preparation for 66/67 and one on installing 67 covers. 66/67 are pretty much the same. One difference could be that 67 has listing panels that anchor down the outside bolsters to the seat springs and I have not been able to determine if 66 also do.

Someone short who doesn't want to 'sink' into the seat?

(I'm 6'4" so I'm only guessing here ...)

After having installed one and sat on it, I can tell you that it’s as comfortable as sitting on a 2X12 plank. But if anyone here wants them, come by in by and pick them up. They’re out at the curb right now with my trash. Better hurry though.

My friend just bought a set of the Legendary interiors seat foams for the front seats of his 69 Charger. He couldn't believe that foam costs $500.00!
