while working as a tech for ma mopar in the late 90's a cust called about haveing her 1969 coronet R/T repaired at the dealership(we were reguarded as the local authority on classic mopars). the story goes like this, the R/T was her husbands project and after he passed away she decided to sell. Along comes a "buyer" who takes the car for a test drive..... and does not return!! somwhere between phoenix and Tucson he windows the block, he then takes the car to the closest dealer who discovers the car is stolen and calls the "customer" back to authorize the repair, where he was promptly arrested:headbang: so the R/T arrives at my shop and I HAVE to check it out!! This is what I found a perfect 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T numbers matching 440 4-speed dana 60! it was burnt orange with a black top and the "bulge" hood. a new headliner and carpet kit was in the trunk. So I get it in my bay rekey the whole car(we actually had the original kit in the parts department) and then it went to the heavy line tech for the engine assessment. Number 2 rod had punched the block out near the panrail! Ok so we push it out back to wait for the owner to approve the repair. Now this is the really sad part, we put one of the lot kids in the car to steer(heave car, light kid) made sense at the time. so we get this thing rolling good and as the lot kid turns into a spot(facing a brick wall) you guessed it he pushed the clutch instead of the brake and WHAM!!! the wall shook and the drivers fender and door kinda became one
so now comes the phone call to the poor old widow, not only was her husbands car stolen, motor blown up but now it's wrecked. The widow decides to sell and while I try and talk the boss into buying it a wholesaler gets the number from someone in the dealership buys the car for $1500.00 buys a used 383 and sells it for somthing like $10.000. well thats my sad story I just hope it went to a good home I hated seeing someone just scoop it up for a profit:angryfire:
