Hi everyone first time poster here.

I recently changed the transmission on a 1968 coronet 383, from a '68 date code a833 to another '68 a833. The "old" transmission was a crashbox, and because it was always rammed into gear, I believe this hid the issues im having now with the new transmission.

When I took appart the linkage, I drew myself a diagram so im absolutely positive I reassembled it the same way. But im not sure it was ever right to begin with. Im not even sure its the correct parts because they look different than the ones i see in pictures.

The shifter is a hurst competition or hurst super shifter. I forget, but its an H pattern with R lockout.

I can't seem to get all the gears "banging them" its like 3rd is a mile away, and i hit another gate that does nothing (think W pattern shifter)

I've already solved one issue with the linkage, the r lever was on backward. Wouldn't allow 2/4 to engage. Also, the transmission wouldn't engage into R fully, and 2nd ground the first time I shifted too it then would act fine. This turned out to be the shift rod in the wrong hole, (farther hole, less throw) so that issue is fixed too.

Clearly my linkages/tabs are messed up but i dont know what goes where or if I have the right tabs at all. If you look at the picture you can see that the 1-2 tab is longer than the 3 -4 tab, in terms of center to center of the holes causing a longer throw. The following numbers are pinstamped onto the parts

1054828 (straight)
1054828 (bent)
1050053 (reverse 3 hole tab)

I see I listed the same number twice unsure on my mistake on that but i remember one of them ending in a 9, that number i do not have (car garage far away) I should add the trans shifts fine for just cruising around

And ive adjusted the shifter with the pin in it twice

Those are not the correct Mopar levers they should be 890, 891 and 967 on the levers. I do have the correct original rods for the factory Hurst shifter and should have the levers as well PM me if interested

Here are some photos of my 69. I don't believe they are any different than the 68. I have a set of used rods and arms as well if you are interested. PM me. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.

I ended up solving my issue using my existing arms. I replaced all my shifter bushings, found one was missing and one was wore out of round. Readjusted everything and it works well. Still some fine adjusting to do, and for whatever reason the only way my 3/4 tab works is flipped around backward (leaned into transmission) although I may have the wrong parts, everything seems to be a-ok. I found I have an older style hurst setup which uses the same levers I have.

Either way, minus reverse feeling like im moving a mountain (HARD to throw) everything is ok. I think the R problem is internal transmission issue, because even if I center everything with a wrench without linkage attached, its real stiff.

Going to leave it as is until I can afford a 5 speed. Thanks everyone.
