A833 Shifter rebuild question

Hi All, I recently purchase a 67 Coronet Convertible that was transformed into an R/T tribute. It has a 440 / 4sp. It has a Hurst shifter for the 4 speed but it is very vague and notchy when shifting. I would like to find a shifter rebuild kit. What will I need to know in order to get the proper kit? Do I need any numbers from the transmission itself to identify it? How can I tell if the shifter is a plain Hurst or a Competition Plus? Does that matter?
