In a recent thread, I asked for help with some tranny troubleshooting. It turned out my linkage wasn't missing any parts, but was poorly adjusted at the carb. I adjusted the kickdown linkage and downshift works just fine, trans seem to work smoother and everything seems just dandy.

However... the other day in the garage, I noticed oil stains under the car. I jacked her up and checked - trans oil pan was wet, and there seems to be some trans fluid seepage.

My question is - why would the transmission begin to leak now when it works as it's supposed to? Too much fluid? I'm thinking that some previous owner, oblivious of the faulty linkage has tried to remedy hard shifting by adding more fluid or something... or is there another reason for the sudden leak?

I run a gentle 318 in front of the A904. No specials, just a Holley 500 2-bbl, HEI ignition and dual exhaust, no cam/heads/intake replacements. Just a near stock small block. Trans is, as far as I can tell, in stock shape.

The linkage attaches to a shaft that has a shaft in side it and they usually leak when you mess with the linkages... there's 2seals that leak there and its a pain but can be fixed the shaft gets worn and it may not leak until someone adjusts the linkages then it will find a new spot to wear on and then leak.... clean it up real good and if the gouges are fine a fine sand paper cleans up the shaft if there worn deep a sleeve kit is available.... if. It only drips a drop or so it may not be worth the pain.
