Scored two Ford Mustangs! I know, they're not MOPARS, but, with one of them being a Fastback, for the price we payed for both, there's NO way I will walk from these cool cars! With this car, my old buddy Steve will be helping me out in getting the Fastback squared away!

Fantastic! Next to Roadrunners, 66-71 Stangs are my favorite muscle-era ride. No better design to be found, IMO. Congrats and enjoy the new projects!

In the mid 70's, I had 5 early Mudstains with two of them being Fastbacks...one a 65 and the other a 66 and the other 3 were coupes. Actually, had all 5 at the same time! Too bad they broke so much. The 65 289 auto never broke but the 66 289 4 speed broke one too many times and I gathered them all up and sold them off and went back to my Mopars. I really liked the 66 a lot too....

Nice salvage score, looks like allot of work, I don't think your worried about that thou, have fun I wish you the best... It would better if they were Mopars...LOL...

pretty cool Donny! I had one years ago that got stolen, even to this day we never heard anything about it. Had a 289 4-speed red with deep gold metal-flake racing stripes.. May be a different brand then Mopars but i agree on you cant walk away.. they were quite a car back in the day and worth a good buck now... Wish you luck and hope you'll post a couple pics when you media blast them..

How I'm going to fit them into my schedule remains to be seen! Steve will have to come down from Austin more often, to really make some progress that is! The 65 will go on the dolly system I made for the Dodge truck with a few modifications. Or, I may just strip it, put on rotisserie, blast it, then prime it, then put on dolly (yeah, sounds better). I can't get over how CHEAP Ford parts are compared to our MOPAR stuff! New fenders for 200 bucks? Like WOWSERS! I don't see this becoming central to my varied work load, progress MUST be made on the B Body's!

Congrats! I had a few ponies in my day...here's a pic of the 66 FB i had:

Sorry, but these cars were never a part of the muscle era. :) Back then, Mustangs, Camaros, 'Cudas, etc., were all classified as Pony Cars, not Muscle Cars, and it would have been insulting to a Mustang owner to refer to them as a muscle car back then. Muscle cars were big, full-size, family cars, not zippy little long front deck/short rear deck poor-man's sports cars. :)

But the guy in the 68 428 Cobra Jet Mustang who just blew our doors off tips the needle toward muscle car rather than sports car. But you are right, they are pony cars to begin with. And isn't the term "muscle car" a recent invention? I don't recall that name being thrown around in the 80's.

Good find Donny! I had a 68 Mustang GT 302 4 spd. Drove it for 9 yrs and put 90 miles on it after I restored it. It was an easy resto, and as you are finding out, parts were cheap and darn near available a the grocery store.

Very cool score, I love the early fastback Mustang and have owned a couple early coupes. You will be amazed at the quantity of restoration parts available for these cars, there is almost nothing that isn't being reproduced.

Donny, good score. Mustangs are one of the easiest cars to restore. Mustangs Unlimited is an hour drive from here and I can get anything for my cars. I even get parts for my Falcon there that will fit. Now Falcon specific parts suck to find, but are still not that spendy.

I might be adding another Mustang to the stable as a personal birthday present. I found a 73 Mach 1 that is truly rust free. I was shocked when I crawled under it and saw virgin floor pans, trans tunnel and frame rails. I guess they kept it away from the salt. I really don't need thecar, but it is too nice to pass up and should (I use that term loosely) be easy to restore.

Yep just like 67-69 Camaro's, the 64-1/2 -68 & even 69-70 Mustang's stuff is freaken' everywhere, everyone make something for them, also much, much, less expensive than Mopar anything....

Writer, after testing a 64 GTO Bobcat edition, against the GTO Ferrari of the day....

Agreed, and what about A Body Mopars? A Duster, Dart, or Demon was hardly a big car relative to the times. To me a muscle car was an affordable, high HP car that had a back seat, unlike the Corvette.

Good score on the mustangs donny,I still kinda miss my 70 Boss mustang.

I'm not up on all the A body jazz but I agree.
My dad was complaining about the new Dart and how it's an economy car not a fast muscle car like the old ones... But he failed to realize that before they became the muscle car we think of today, people were buying them because they were an economy car, small engine, light weight, etc. Now a Dart with a big block or hemi is another story... then again there is talk about an SRT4 Dart coming out... I wish they threw a 6.4 hemi in one of those I'd be getting in line for one now! haha...
