I bought a battery from Advance Auto online, pickup in the store on 7/20. 2 year free replacement. Fast forward to today. Battery is bad, confirmed at the store. So because I bought it online they will give me the purchase price back but I have to re-buy the battery but the battery now cost more!

After much discussion (i was being nice) with the manager he brought the price down to where it cost me $7. Certainly not a free replacement.

Had a 2 year battery go bad and I was a few days past the buy date at a store where I trade often.....but they snubbed me. Next battery I buy will have a copy of the receipt taped to the visor of the vehicle it's in and at the first sign of a problem, it's going back.

It clearly says "Free Replacement". What they actually honored was a "Money Back Guarantee". There's a difference that looks like they don't understand.

If I remember correctly, if you order parts online, it is billed through a different company under their corporate umbrella. Different rules apply.

Exide.

I bought a battery in 1975 with unlimited lifetime warranty as long as I own the car. The car was last driven in '85 but I still own it. Every couple years the battery dies from just sitting under the workbench. I walk in with it and out with a new one. Canadian Tire !!

The problem with that solution is most stores now use thermal paper for their receipt. A month in the Texas heat and you end up with a blank piece of paper stuck to your visor.

I do remember a battery called 'Forever' from JCPenney, bought in the 70's that I returned after more than 20 years and they paid for a replacement, since at that time they got out of the car business. Honest people, for a change.

I take pics of them.....and mark the original for the date and what it was for then if the store has a problem with that, I can show them the pic of it. Might can even ask for a written receipt....?

For the past 30+ years, I've been getting my batteries at O'Reilly's. The last 6 that I've had lasted 8 to 9+ years before they've take a dump. They have a month/year sticker that's on the batt. to show MFG. date, I can't speak for Advance. This is between 3 vehicles so I guess I can't complain about getting scammed. The first sign that they won't start, I get a jump and it's off to the parts store for a new one. Screw their policy, I swap them out right there in the parking lot. It takes all of what, 5 minutes to swap a batt.?

My last battery came from O'Reilly's.....a 2 year battery and that's all it lasted for....barely but I didn't get it back to them on 'that date'. Use to be most auto parts houses didn't worry about if you were a few days past but they seem to now.

I don't know if it is a scam but I bought an Optima red at Advance online, it died 4 months later, and it has a 3 year warranty. I returned it to the same store and got a new one, I notice on the new receipt it only has a 12 month warranty now. The counter guy was also surprised but could not explain it, just said nothing he can do, and I never got a good answer calling customer service. I guess it is 3 years if it only dies once now, next time is on you.

I actually had good luck with Batteries Plus... online discount, Knowledgable, and the batteries lasted well
Did I say "Had"..... Last time in it was all Affirmative action hires that knew NOTHING.... I wish em well

Keep your receipt with the 3 year warranty, and use it if or when the new battery fails.

Battery for the '04 Ram crapped out last summer, was one of those high-dollar AGF jobbers
it "had" to have (Advance Auto, made by Johnson Controls).
The $200 price tag finally broke the cycle of trying to buy "the best" batteries for me over
the years - and off I headed to WallyWorld, who had a replacement on the shelf - for $84.
Yes, $84.

3 year warranty... and after a little online research, I found out it was made by
Johnson Controls in Saudi Arabia!
warning-warning-this-does-not-compute.jpg

Why in the world would they make batteries in Saudi Arabia? Big lead reserves there or what?
Further...
How in the heck are they able to build a battery in Saudi Arabia and transport it halfway around
the world and sell it for half what the equivalent costs at any other auto parts store?

To whoever red x'd my Exide response-

Care to share why?

I've used nothing by Rural King branded Exide's in every car/truck I've owned for the past 8-10 years with the exception of my 2015 Renegade only because they don't make one that fits the specialized design of that model.

Every one has outlasted the rated lifetime. Every single one.
