my 440 engine is being rebuilt and I should have it in a couple of weeks - i want to ebuild my 727 transmission - without modding it much - just make it reliable and fresh - any suggestions on a rebuild kit that i should use?

Thanks - for my 1971 Plymouth GTX

Transgo kit is good, but you have to modify the valvebody, hence it cannot be put back stock... B&M is a shift improver kit that is reliable, and you do not have to modify the VB, just replace the separator plate and do some add to and take away pieces.

The "I know everything" trans guys will always say go with transgo, but I have done both kits and found that if you are just driving it around and not drag racing to try and get that extra 1/10th of a second, the B&M kit will be just fine. I have rebuilt over 35 727's to sell and I use a B&M in my RR just because it has proven to brake u-joints :D

I have always had GREAT luck with the TCI stuff, located in Miss....

That answers my question, i was about to post on finding out what the best rebuild kit for my 727 trans.

vlad,

depending on what you want your trans to do for you, a master rebuild kit from o'reilly (or any other part store for that matter) would satisfy your needs up to about 550hp ( I know, I ran a 71 Charger that clocked 12.17's all day long on one of those kits for 4 years without a rebuild).

Not saying all the stuff out there is bad, they do improve upon the design with better materials, etc... but if you are not building a super drag car, why spend a crapload of money on stuff you will never maximize its potential.

if you have any questions, pm me.

I used the FRAM rebuild kit twice, and had great luck both times! All seals, clutches, etc were included.....

I have used this one from jmurf1954 on e-bay. It is all top quality high performance parts, and includes all the clutches, steels, both bands, and the pump and output shaft bushings.

For a shift kit, the transgo TF-2 is really good.
