I'm going to insall aftermarket AC/heat in my 62 Fury wagon. Thinking of using Vintage Air GEN II Super system. Has anyone used this unit ? How well did the box fit ? any photos? Do not want to install an under dash unit. Thave already made compressor brackts. Oh yeah the car has a 318 poly.

I am installing a Vintage Air system in my 1964 Dodge Polara, equipped with big block. My car had factory AC in it at one time that never worked, so I removed this system completely. This gave me the required pulleys and alternator mount. A bonus with the V.A. set-up is that it does away with all the vacuum hoses to operate the various doors. This is all done electrically on the V.A. system.
I have posted a lot of pictures and info on the '62-'65 forum. Go this forum and click on the "Search" icon on the top right. Then type in "Vintage Air", and then type in "Dave6T4". This should pop up a bunch of stuff I posted.

Like what you did with the heater hoses. Do you have any pictures of the right (passenger side) AC line connections from the interior view/ and exterior engine bay view) ? This is the Vintage Air GEN II Super AC-heat-defrost right? Thanks

Yes, this is my unit is as well. I will have to see what pictures I took. The last picture has to be rotated clockwise 90 degrees to make sense. I routed the AC hoses down the passenger side inner fenders using '66-'67 heater hose brackets. I bought hard lines and bent them with a tubing bender to go from condenser over the radiator support. I had to trim away some of the plastic housing on the right side to let various hoses enter that space easier. I can likely go through my invoices to sort out what parts I had to order to make this work. I also bought lengths of the 3 different sizes of AC hose, and had appropriate hose connections crimped on at an AC shop. I have not put my dash back in yet, so final wiring is not sorted out. Let me know what additional help I can give you. I also had to change the pictured thermostat housing to the early cast iron one that angles forward. This gave me room for the upper rad hose to clear the drive belts.

OK , I see how you did this..NICE ! looks like a clean install. Question, does your cars passenger side firewall area have a large angled portion where the fresh air came in/ with like a large oval hole ?...thats how my 62 fury is...just trying to make sure our cars are close to the same, This information will help me so much , when I do my AC install...Thank you.

One more question..is your glove box still fully useable ???. Sorry for all the questions, but you have become may best source of information for my AC project. Thanks Shawn N.E. Ohio

Wow, that's nice, Shawn; a Fury wagon! Dodge never did a corresponding high end Polara wagon. Maybe because Dodge had a wagon in its 880 series.
My Polara also had this air intake, which needs to be blocked off. Using the foam air intake gasket as a template, I cut out a piece of sheet metal as a block off. I ran a bead of black gasket sealer on the flange, and attached the cover plate with self-tapping screws.
I don't have my dash back in the car yet, so I don't know for sure whether the glove box clears. I sure hope it does.
I was able to mount the control switches on the 1964 Dodge heater control plate by cutting out the original heater button hole area. I know the heater button arrangement is different on your Plymouth, so I don't know what you will do there. Dave.

Hi Dave, I was wanting to know if you had installed your dash assy ? If you have could you post some pictures that show how much the vintage air EVAP box extends below the dash frame work ( near the glove box) and if possible you could measure that distane for me , so I would have some idea of the room the EXAP box takes up. Thanks..Shawn

Sorry I did not make it to my car this weekend, wife had a list for me. Glove box is still usable

Hi, Shawn. I don't have my dash in yet, but it should be soon. I am just finishing up wiring connections. My car has a console, so I installed the unit high enough to clear it, so it should not hang below bottom of dash. I will get photos and measurements for you once dash is in. Dave
