I went with the Sun Super reproduction because I wanted the old look. Just strapped it to the column with the supplied band clamp.
What size is that gauge? Not a 5" unit is it?I went with the Sun Super reproduction because I wanted the old look. Just strapped it to the column with the supplied band clamp.

No way ! 3 screws and the black off plate comes out from behind the dash ... I Thought
i was going to have to pull my cluster as well, but I decided to take a look underneath. To my surprise I noticed it was wide open, took the 3 screws out and removed the blank plate. In went the tach, extremely easy ....
I bought the top one for my Satellite - I like the look of it and that it's metal. I haven't installed it yet, though. If I ever come across a factory console one that isn't being held for ransom, I'd like to have one of those.I like the Bosch tach.Metal cup and comes with two different mounts, steering column or dash.
You would probably like this style for a '69

The top tach with the chrome center knob---Those were sold by the company that bought out Sun. Sun Pro, I think. I had seen them advertised in several places a couple years ago. When I tried to get one , they were no longer available ANYWHERE. Not even old stock. I wondered if for some reason they pulled them off the market.I went with the Sun Super reproduction because I wanted the old look. Just strapped it to the column with the supplied band clamp.

I'm going to check out maybe going with the factory style tach but if I determine that's more than I want to do right now, I'll go with the Bosch unitThe top tach with the chrome center knob---Those were sold by the company that bought out Sun. Where and when did you get that one? I still would like to get one........................MO
Sun Pro, that's the name I was trying to remember. I probably bought it about Dec. of '14 or Jan. of '15. I got it online, but can't remember where. I'll bet I got lucky and got it just before it was discontinued. I have never had a problem with it. I want to say I paid about $100 for it.The top tach with the chrome center knob---Those were sold by the company that bought out Sun. Sun Pro, I think. Bill this brings back memories. I can’t help anymore than the others, but then I still have 2 holes in the upper dashpad from my longgone Moroso cable drive tach & a slight hole in left defroster duct where the cable came thru.I'm going to check out maybe going with the factory style tach but if I determine that's more than I want to do right now, I'll go with the Bosch unit
Those tachs are super cool.....but I like to be looking out the windshield when I'm going down the drag strip....just sayinI bought the top one for my Satellite - I like the look of it and that it's metal. That’s why I have the holes in dashpad lol!!!Those tachs are super cool.....but I like to be looking out the windshield when I'm going down the drag strip....just sayin
I hear you, even if not "correct" in a show car or for the purist, there's still something nostalgic about one of these tachs mounted on the dash or column. As I said to start with, no matter what I don't want to hack anything up but those that remember these cars back in the day know that they all had one! It's just what you did.Bill this brings back memories.
