I recently changer the original 2bbl carb and manifold from my 66 Coronet 500 361ci. I picked up a year correct Mopar 4bbl manifold and chose the Edelbrock 1406 to pair with it.

Definitely an improvement. The original 2bbl just didn't have enough "***", I'm not sure if the original carb (Carter B&B) performed better back in 66, but I was unable to get it to a point of satisfaction.

The Edelbrock could't have gone easier...bolted directly to the manifold. and started up in about 5 seconds...no adjustments needed and the Coronet moves now. I don't care about burning rubber up the street, but it's nice to know that it could.

The original air cleaner ( that I really like) can't fit now as the throat plate is about 4-3/4" in dia and the Edelbrock is 5-1/4" dia. The original air cleaner was always very close to the hood insulator, so an adapter would not have room.

Does anyone know of a throat plate that would work with the original top?
What has worked? or does everyone go to the carb specific air cleaner and loose the look?

Something like this should work. Its for a 383 but should work.

A pic of your original air cleaner would help. Which one you got?

I did this on my Plymouth last spring but mine has an unsilenced cleaner. Find a 90's magnum Dakota or ram the throttle body opening fits a standard 4 barrel. I cut the base to leave the gap between the base and the cover.

Is this a drop base, flat, or raised based air cleaner? And what is it’s original diameter. (The dakota one)

All you should need is a base from a 68-70 Mopar that had a AVS carb. not sure about Holleys. Also pay attention to 4mulas post.

The magnum air cleaners are essentially flat 14-1/4" across.
