I’m curious. Those that run air cleaners. Are you more consistent? Seems like they would help consistency in turbulent air. I realize some are better than others. I’m not interested in gains but more so in consistency. Im a 1/4 mile index racer in NSS when I’m not 1/8 mike bracket racing. I don’t have any issues in the 1/8. I do see anomalies at times in the 1/4 that I can’t seem to track. I run an in-line 2x4 setup with edelbrocks on a modman under a WO type scoop.

Has anyone tested this?

I’ve run the small k&n’s for the last 5 years, they seem less susistible to high humidity weather vs paper elements.

High humidity plus low temps and head winds are where my anomalies come into play. The car doesn’t follow the weather in those scenarios. I pick up when all the math says I should slow up.

I did back to back testing a couple of years ago. 11.41 with a 14x3 K&N. and 11.41 with no aircleaner. (In fact, the car ran (3) 11.41's that day and 11.42 off the trailer. Not bad for a street car footbraking with no tach!)

I will always run an aircleaner at our Midwest tracks because of the wind and dirt we have. Two tracks we race at have grass/dirt pits.

Sounds like the carbs are jetted on the lean side for it to pick up vs weather station prediction.

I just had that conversation last night with Doug. All signs point to lean. BUT, the plugs say it is just right.
I am going to richen it up and go bracket racing this weekend and see where its at.

Here is the data. Pass 4 and 6 are the anomalies. The predictions and the hand math show the car to be right where I need it. The car just sets sail on the back half of the track.

Are you running an adjustable plate under the carbs?
Also where are you pitted when getting the weather data in relationship to the finish line?

I used to run restrictor plates.
I moved to ballast to see if I could get away from this issue.
That was at Bradenton. I was about 50 yards past the finish line. I verified that the weather station is reading the same as others. I compared readings against 3 others of various types/brands. They are all within a degree and the DA is within 50 feet of each other.
Its my car.

I am starting to suspect the modman intake. Maybe i cant trust the plug readings with this shoebox plenum? Possibly puddling fuel and doing something strange?

Are you coming to any of the NMCA races this year?

I am planning on the BG race. If I was you I wouldn't get to hung up on those few surprise runs, that's what the left pedal is for. Your car looks pretty consistent to me, couple that with good reaction times and the wins will be there. We always say "we're splitin' hairs" trying to get that perfect run. Good luck in Atlanta.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE share with us what kinda of DATA Program is that....I love it....I need it....

Crew chief pro is the data program. It’s not cheap but when you race from Florida to Georgia to Kentucky to Chicago to Norwalk to Indy and then a bunch of bracket races and nostalgia events in between... it pays for itself from analyzing weather and comparing predictions for qualifying. Just to give you an idea of what it’s come to. After round one of qualifying in nostalgia super stock in Bradenton, Florida I was number 6 with 10.259. So .009 over was only good for number 6 in the first session.

I’ve seen the video. I was asking about consistency not which one makes the best power.
