Yes I believe you are correct, I was looking at my 66 parts book last evening and there are several different part numbers listed.I'm not a originality or show car guy, but I think there were a couple different versions of the oval snorkel as well. Maybe A/C, non A/C, and C.A.P.?
My May 66 parts book only lists single snorkel and no snorkel for the early cars. Then in an updated 66 parts book (March 1967) there are listings for a dual snorkel for 383 and 440 engines. The part number for this dual snorkel is the same in the 67 parts book but the part number for the 440 dual snorkel changed (now an oval?). Check your parts numbers for your cars.....I don't believe they had a dual snorkel on a 66.

Correct you are....have both 67 factory 440HP and 383 4 bbl cars. 440=oval 383=roundI believe that 67 383`s were round. The 67 440`S were oval.
I have a 66 CAP and non CAP single snorkel for sale, I want to sell the CAP. The difference seems to be where the breather hooks up. Anyone know which is which?Correct you are....have both 67 factory 440HP and 383 4 bbl cars. 440=oval 383=round
CAP has a hose nipple for a hose to breather and NON Cap has no nipple on air cleaner....I have a 66 CAP and non CAP single snorkel for sale, I want to sell the CAP. The difference seems to be where the breather hooks up. Anyone know which is which?
Both are CAP just from different models...Interesting, then what do I have here? Super rare, 1 week only, drag strip testing air cleaner... I have no idea. Both 66 383-4. One is California

This pic is of a 67 440 XP29L car that was presented as all original parts, I questioned the tapered snorkel oval tips and the very knowledgeable owner promised me it was factory. This car was at show at the IX center in Cleveland OH in 2018 or so.
While looking for a dual snorkel for my 67, it did appear that 68 was the start year for the 5 inch base.Correct me if I'm wrong, But I do believe that the 66 base was 4 7/8" and the 67 base was 5 1/8''. Or maybe the 68 was the first year for the 5 1/8'' base.
In 66 it was only Commando, I think 67 as well. Was super comando chrome only?
