I have a 66 belvedere with a 440 but the engine is a 78 HP block. I'm trying to find an alternator bracket for it. Can anyone give me an idea what would work?
Thanks billy

I hope someone has an answer for you, as I have the same question.

Thanks man I have tried different years but they seem to have different spacing. A little frustrating

I saw some on 440 Source. They have bushing, spacer kits too, with bolts. Priced right too.

Just got the new bracket today . doesn't fit geeze I can't figure it out . I'm a a loss.

Are you using the correct year water pump housing?
The 78 housing and the 66 housing are totally different. Without the correct housing the alternator bracket will not work.

When I told them the correct water pump housing they sent me 66 and newer bracket that one didn't work and then they sent me 67 and later and that one didn't work either. 246-8007 that's the water pump casting that I have on the car maybe I'm doing something wrong I have no idea

This type might work for you. I can take a picture of it on the engine if it helps. IIRC it's for A/C.

If my memory has not failed me again the 66 would have used a series of spacer and a plate with a adjuster arm. The plate bolts to two water pump bolts with the adjuster using the bottom bracket bolt. On the far side of the bracket there should be a hole that aligns with a threaded hole in the head. A spacer is used between the the alternator housing arms and a spacer between the block and alternator with one threw bolt.
The alternator should hang to the bottom.

Thanks for the help though

What bracket would I use?

Reading above you said the 66 didn't work, but that would have been my pick, as 3B was suggesting also.
