Anyone running a alum big block on the street? How has it been? Thinking of building one, strickly for weight savings.
 
why not just build a 400~451 stroker...its 40 LBS lighter then a 440 !! Then you'll be about $4000.00 ahead in the build...just a thought.

I have the sister engine to the one thats in the Mopar Muscle Violent Valiant. Its sitting on my engine stand waiting to be put in. Weight is 450lbs with oil in the pan, intake, throttle body[ mines efi], rails, v/c's, balancer
 
Have a Indy Max alu Block,470",in a pro street car so it does not get driven much but no issues,been in car for probably 10 years !
 
I have the world Hemi aluminum block. So far its works good. After getting some of the issues addressed now I am putting miles on it.

Kinda,mostly not ever building one before.I had Hydraulic roller lifters in it at first.Turns out they don't work that well with the Aluminum block due to the amount aluminum stretches when it get hot.All of your adjustments need to be done at operating temp no cold setting due to stretch which is no big deal.Also on my world block it had the stock steam holes machined in by the sleeves.Those leaked so I had to plug them.I have seen other world block that don't have those steam hole so I must have got a older style block before the provision changed.All of these problems were easy fixes and could been avoided if the company I bought the block from would have just told me.They new I was putting hydraulic lifters in and after they didn't stay pressurized I called and they told me you can't run hydraulic lifter in an aluminum block.Other than that I would definitely do it again!!I will buy my next block elsewhere next time.
 
It only cost 2200$ to upgrade to alum at muscle motors if I read correctly on their short blocks.
 
Another question concerning alum block, does this also help curb knock. I've always heard you could run .5-1.0 more compression with alum heads, can you run even more with a alum block?
