aluminum waterpump and housing

Thanks M&M ,on a side note I just went to amazon and purchased one for 11.89 with free shipping.A lot cheaper than Summit.

No, thank you! That's good to know, I had never looked at Amazon for parts.:eek:ccasion14:

I just replaced the old cast iron intake and water pump house with an aluminium one. Must 60 lbs I dropped. Plus they look good. Sorry, I like a little bling.

Don't be sorry about it, that's what you like and it is YOUR car. Too many people worry about what others think. I don't care if people don't like my engine compartment, it will be the way I want it. I like a more stock appearing look, just my preference. We can't all be identical, borrrriiiiiinnnnnnng!

Here what it looks like on my engine. It a MOPAR brand aluminum water pump housing.

Derailed?
You got all the answers to your question.
Now they are letting off a little steam.

OK then. What other questions on this do you have? I thought galvanic corrosion was covered and the solution was presented. I also saw painted parts that looked nice. I powdercoated my aluminum housing, pump, intake and carb. Heres a before and after.

One thing I'd like to see covered is this. Awhile back I remember readin about some problems with one brand's aluminum pump and housing. Seems there were leakin problems and problems with the pump impeller contacting the inside of the housing. I cannot remember 100% which brand it was......I am almost sure, but I'd rather not say since I cannot remember 100%. Anybody know?

Would you feel better if I told you it's under 800 HP with 5 lbs of boost on pump junk???:laughing1:

No. lol

A long time ago, I remember a post about this from the other "SITE", and the painting of AL will inhibit the heat dissipation. Don't know if that is true or not but my logic says it will. So on that note, where and what type of high temp clear are you and others using????

I am contemplating painting the tanks/perimeter with black, not tubes or fins to make it "appear" original

Tanks dont really need to dissapate heat. Thats the cores job.

I dont think paint changes heat characteristics much. Heat conduction depends on material, sure, but also how long the path is (just like electrical conduction). Since the paint is only a few 0.001's thick, i'd think it does about nothing to heat flow.

Damn. I give up.

Lol, wait, i thought we just agreed!

Haha, for the record, polishing aluminum eliminates those little 'nooks and crannies' so it shrinks the surface area... and hurts heat dissipation. I'd bet it's every bit as much or more than a little paint.

and let's not forget that if you polish the aluminum you get rid of the oxidation (oxide of aluminum is generally clear... and an insulator) but only if you clear coat if quickly. so polished is a better heat dissipator than raw cast aluminum.

did i just contradict myself? Yup. So do whatcha want cuz it's tough to model what will really happen, but we all know aluminum is better than iron in all of the above... and that's all that matters.

I'm talking about the question I ASKED not only because I want to know, but also trying to get the thread back on topic. You know, post 31? I could care less what effect painting has. Never seen it make a difference and it's a waste of time even talkin about it because it's nothing more than a wives tale.
