Another scam attempt by FBBO "member"

I'm sorry to say but we are all targets when purchasing online. We must do are do diligence before buying a product. Don't be the person that thinks this couldn't happen to me.......

I also had a problem with a member on FBBO. I used Paypal for payment & was able to contest the purchase.

Awareness is the key. If your instincts are saying, this deal seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Alway use a safe payment format which allows you to contest the purchase.......

I have a wanted ad posted here and received a PM asking if I was still looking for the part. If so, I was asked to contact him (Frank Bishop) directly through email. I emailed that yes, I was still looking for the part. He replied via email saying:

I still have the 67 Satellite Fender for sale in excellent shape and
condition. Asking $240 shipped for it. I will be shipping via UPS or
FedEx whichever you prefer and shall accept payment via Western union
or Money gram. What's your shipping address?
thanks
Frank.

I followed up asking for a refresher as I don't have any recollection of a conversation. I asked for photos as well and that was it - he was gone. No response. FWIW, he had zero posts so I couldn't even go find an ad he had placed or any history on him. Seemed suspicious from the start not to mention UPS or FedEx won't ship a fender, especially at that price. I went back in to my PM's and his original message is gone.

Hey Flys-Lo,

I just checked my FBBO mail box and everything in both the inbox and sent box from the last month is gone. Any idea how he could do that?

Thanks for the warning! I have bought from several members on this site and have had excelleny luck- maybe we should have a sticky where members rate their buying/selling expeiences with other members??

Same thing happened to me...looking for a 69 fender. He sent me a PM asking if I was still looking for one. I got busy and didn't get the chance to send him an email. Had some time yesterday....went to my inbox to get his email and the message was gone.

Yup, he contacted me too via PM for the X-Ram I'm looking for. His PM says to contact him by email, which doesn't seem too weird. Then his wording got a bit suspect and he only wanted $450.00 for the part. Like the others have said, he wanted a money order or western union payment. I reported him to the admins and they booted him but he'll be back with a new name I guarantee. Only pay for stuff with paypal or other secure site.

The other annoying thing about this, is that it really got my hopes up for getting this X-Ram. I also always felt like this place was like hanging out with a bunch of gearheads in my shop, so I guess I put my guard down.

This prick and all like him need to be drawn and quartered.

Yep - looks like Polara Pat might have been the first to report him - at which point the Admin's booted him and all of his PM's went with him.

He contacted me as well through pm, wanted to know if i was still looking for some parts.

I think this is an excellent idea!

If you can somehow get a mailing adress, get the local DA involved. I did that when I was scammed on some headers. After contacting the local DA in his area, things got corrected pretty fast.

When this happens again, and it will since there is no possible way for the admins to be on top of this all the time, we need to be aware of the red flags in any PM. It should almost be a sticky. The fact that he had no posts at all in his history was a big one and also he quoted the item I was looking for exactly as I had printed in my wanted ad. Telling me that he probably cut and pasted the item.

I usually do a search of the users name and read some of his/her posts to see some history of their activity on the site. If they don't have any vehicles on here, no comments in threads, and no projects of their own I don't believe that they are a legitimate part of the hobby and therefore cannot accurately describe their parts let alone sell them to me with any warm and fuzzy feelings.

Anyway if I can't get a phone number and an address from the person the deal is off.

I say we hang him ,then we kill him, then we stomp him and then we tattoo him.

Name the movie for this quote which could also be applied here

" He's nothing but a low-down, double-dealing, backstabbing, larcenous perverted worm! Hanging's too good for him. Burning's too good for him! He should be torn into little bitsy pieces and buried alive! "

He contacted me by PM and said he had what I needed. I read this and then tried to e mail him and it was undeliverable Go figure!!

I do the same thing. The member's history tells you a lot.
