for dual carbs in conjunction with a hemi AFX hood scoop?
i'm pretty sure there are gains from trapping all the air in through a airpan with a small cutout in the rear to let out excess air trapped inside.
any thoughts?

are you referring to ram air effect, sealing the hood to the carb pan under a scoop ??, it's good for a couple mph & some minor hp gains @ around 100+mph supposedly... I never ran a race car without the pan for carbs or injectors sealed to the hood/scoop, to make a comparison... unless it was an injector hat, like an Enderle Bug, Bird or Buzzard catcher, they act as there own forced air scoop...

I would think it would improve performance by a ramming effect of the airflow. If you had stub velocity stacks incorporated into the pan to direct airflow into the carbs. The more CFM through the engine the better the performance if the sum of the parts can handle it.

yes im going to build an aluminum carb pan to trap all air going in from the afx hood scoop. i need a few more mph and .1-.1.5 et drop
just switched to a radial slick and need a little more. i want 150+ mph in the heat.

good idea, it also helps keep hot underhood air out of the carbs better & you get much cooler denser air from the outside, with an added ram air effect... It couldn't hurt

Chris while the car is here, I'm going to fab you up some a piece of aluminum and seal that hood to your carters. You should see some gains.
I want to try a set of dads Carters 750 carbs on opening day.

hopefully it will be done by next saturday. cant wait to fire it up and it moves under its own power finally.

SSR ,
on my 440 the air pan i use made over 25RWHP on the chassis dyno.on all the cars i have fitted them they have gone 1/10th plus better.I try not to use aluminium or metal as a plate if possible,i have 3mm fibreglass sheet , marine exhaust heat shield on mine and have even used plywood . The metal plate especially aluminium in my opinion will pass too much heat , though if you do not drive it up to the lanes etc this would be less of a problem

just check to see if you need to rejet , more than likely
Tex
PS : i also used this pan modified on a modman dual quad manifold . This is under a sixpack hood

I sure learned by experience. I had a 71 Dart years ago. It was a really fun car. BONE stock 71 360 except cam, headers, MP electronic ignition, headers, hot 904 with a 2500 converter and 4.10 gears when at the track. A functional scoop allowed me to run 12.90s instead of 13 teens on slicks. I couldn't believe it made that big a difference. I just used on of them Moroso pans with a velocity stack screwed down on top of it stickin through and sealed to the hood into a Mopar pro scoop.

Chris come on up tomorrow if you have a chance. i just started fabbing it up for you. I'm glad im able to help support your association and this will be my contribution for your blue dodge.

:laughing7:thanks jimi for the airpan. hopefully i pick up a few tenths with it and some mph.:eusa_clap:
