Might work - apart from the 'wingspan' of that fitting he has.

If he gets the ball/socket baseplate he can add an extension tube. That and a wire stretcher and he'll be all set!

Check out thrift stores for used ceiling fans, and use the ball mount and escutcheon.

Maybe a Habitat ReStore.

Not all of them have that, though, so make sure.

Going rate for cheap used ceiling fans around here is $15-$25.

Ceiling fan ball mount, and extension work very well. 38 years, and no problems with them...

I like the ceiling fan mount idea. I'm going to take down the fixture and see if I can make this work !
