Anybody familiar with a 54 Chrysler Windsor?

The rats worry me, remember it has cloth covered wiring and it's a 6V system.
Mice infestation bothers me a bunch as well. I went through that with a 69 Charger several years ago. They had built nests in every frame rail and rocker. Of coarse pissing in the nests. That rotted the metal from the inside out unbeknownst to me when I bought the car.

I helped a friend that has a resto shop redo a '36 Buick that had been sitting in the family barn for 30 years. The inside smelled like a very dirty litterbox. But once he got the car back from blasting there was very little body rot due to the mice. Same with a '66 Shelby...but they had a field day on the dash wires.

I believe 54 was the 1st fully automatic trans? Powerflite?
If it were closer to me, I wouldn't hesitate.
I would Marvel Mystery oil the cylinders, let it sit, turn it by hand, bet it will run.
I turned down a 52 Cranbrook at 3K in similar condition. Next guy didn't, had it running in 2 days. He spent about $750 to get it running and stopping, cleaned it and turned it at 8K. All in 2 weeks.
Wish it were closer.

my wife had the choice of 2 dr ht or convertible , at that time I had bought a 4dr from n dakota for parts , for conv , she looked me in the eye and said she wanted the 4 dr she is a good wife so I did the 4 dr for her , that was in 96 she still has it . swaped the motor and redid the complete interior with conv int material way better quality . never painted it yet . still gets alot of attention at car shows . She likes my muscle cars and ocassionly drives one . but loves the 4 dr . so there is a market with money out there for the 4 door .

Could be a cool car to bring back to life

everything will need to be gone thru
fuel, cooling, brakes, oils/fluids, anything rubber, new battery etc.
could start to add up quick

get it cheap enough, maybe

low-ish miles, cool color combo
to the right person, could bring a few bucks
or just get it safe & running,
not ever going to be a hi-$$$ car
drive it until you're bored with it & move on

good luck whatever you decide

I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. I had a '49 Coronet that I never should have sold. Love the old stuff!

It's a '54 - there's like eight wires in the whole car. Snag it, get it running, swap it to 12v alternator instead of the 6v generator, and CRUISE. They're a BLAST.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll ask them what they are wanting to get out of the car, and then make the decision if I even want to mess with it. Sure wish this find would have been a 60's B body.....

Yeah like a nice 62 2 door Savoy.

That’s why I couldn’t be bothered. If you think you’re just gonna put gas and a battery in it... well, you are in deeper than you think. Where do you even get parts? Obsolete brakes, kingpins, wiring that’s sure to be a nightmare. I can think of better ways to waste my time.

That's all I did to my '49. Ultrasound cleaned the carb, fresh fuel, fresh oil in the oil bath air cleaner, engine oil change, filled the coolant, new battery, adjusted the brakes, new tires, washed it, vacuumed it...and drove it.

Basic is just that - basic. Not much there? Not much to go wrong. I may have put plugs and wires on it...

Yeah, I don't think I would waste much time trying to get it running. Clean it up and sell it is my thought. I have my Road Runner in the garage ready to be put back together, and I can't even find much time to work on that.
