Anyone else tired of UPS's crap? RANT

I guess ive been pretty lucky.. Ive sent/received many, many things without any problems but twice, first time was a coil that took a good 3 weeks to get it, the second time I bought a part from a member here and it got lost! He seemed as surprised as i was. he reimbursed me and that was it. Then i believe it was 2 months or so later it showed up at my place, undamaged in great shape. One other thing good ill say, the drivers seem to be friendly enough!! I imagine that shipping between Canada and the states can get aggravating.

why whine--call it colloteral damage-if you need the part-pay the price-enjoy the car and don't worry--that what matters to me--enjoying my automobile--hope i can find that electrical problem

Good luck with that electrical problem!

I've used UPS for over 15 years and have never had a problem and I ask most people who I ship to how the package looked when they got it. The biggest cause of damaged shipments is bad packaging. You just can't ship a 4 speed transmission in a cardboard box with packing peanuts or send a set of gears in one of those damn 'if it fits it ships' flat rate boxes! I have no idea how they made it here but they did thankfully. As for the post office....not so lucky with them. Haven't used them much but when I do, they are the ones that usually smash up the shipment or lose it. Last week, I shipped 3 boxes to the same guy in Denmark and it took 30 minutes just to do the freakin paperwork. It will probably take less time if I ever ship over seas again since I know what to do now but still....and they haven't made it there so I can't comment about it yet.

I'm not a fan of UPS as I was going to work one day years ago, and as one of their trucks was rounding a curve, a package flew out of the truck! Seriously. I stopped and picked it up as our company uses them, and they said thanks for the pickup when I handed it over at the daily pickup....that could've been something priceless in there and that driver wouldn't have known what happened to it.
Don't fault the whole company because of a driver/delivery person. I'm sure the driver didn't get away without the boss having a word in it. Driver's are not supposed to drive with the cargo bay doors open...back or front.

I hate their damn shipping calculator only to get it rammed up the you know where with double the price when I go to ship. UPS can go F- themselves!! I here ya.
Are you using the online calculator then going to the UPS store to pay? If so, that's why. The stores are franchises and have a markup. If you ship a few items a year, you can set up an account and pay for it on their site and print your own shipping label and then either catch a driver or drop it off at any UPS store or counter and then you will pay the rate that's quoted in the calculator.

I know some guys here in Canada have a mail box in the states they have their stuff delivered to it,it is about $300.00 a year ,but they split the cost Five ways, and run over and pick up there parts

i have done this a couple of times. i rent a box from ups in watertown ny and have stuff shipped to it but it was a pain due to the 1hr drive there and 1 hr back plus only pcs up to a certain size. so, on one of my trips done i checked into a couple of smaller freight guys and asked about having stuff shipped there and i pick it up, for a price of course. no problem and the cost is flexable, ie; a bottle of expensive canadian whiskey, cuban cigars or some cash, which ever one they want that day.
most shippers are free in the lower 48 so it gets to watertown n/c and if it's not n/c it is cheap. then i try to combine a bunch of stuff from different suppliers and the trip is worth it. a couple of years ago i was doing a build on a car and i needed a lot of stuff. made up my wish list did my due diligence on quality and price and had it all shipped to w.town. took my 24ft enclosed trailer and loaded up. there was a lot of bulky stuff, rear 1/4's, front fenders bucket seats and a slew of smaller stuff. i was nervous getting to customs on the canadian side with the volume of stuff.
your normal questions were asked, where you been, how long away and anything to declare. told what i had just done and went inside to straighten up with all my various bills. i was surprised with how simple it was. it's all duty free and the only charge was the gst which had to be paid anyway. they looked in the trailer and said have a nice day. on the 5-6,000.00 worth of stuff i am guessing i saved 30 to 50% on doing it myself. just something i have done to save $$$.
another trick is if you have stuff coming that is pricey you can hire your own broker at a fraction of the cost of ups. soon as you make your purchase have a copy of the inv. faxed to you and your broker then your broker bills you saving $$$.
now if i buy stuff, summit, jegs and a couple of more i request usps and they say they use ups. i tell them no and then they say, oh, its going to canada we will usps and they know why. this is getting long winded. there are ways to do it.
