Anyone else working on an altered wheelbase car?

Hides pretty well.

skicker, I'm toying with the idea of a straight front axle for a 63 Belvedere
May I ask where did you get yours ? What type of steering box and linkage are you using?

I used a 65 Ford Econoline axle from a van. It was supposed to be an A-100 Axle when the guy sold it to me.
Only after I ordered all of the drum brake parts to rebuild it did I find out it was a Ford axle.
I have an A-100 axle that I removed from a 65 A-100 van along with all of the new brake hardware to go with it...May have to use it under something else???
As for the steering box and hook-up I'm still torn with what to do.
There are a few options available but since I will be staying rear steer (that's where the only connection point would be on the r/h side) I need to weigh them all out and decide which box to use.
The mopar manual box may be the simplest but will require a longer bracket on mine since I moved the frame rails apart to be the same as the centerline of the leaf spring center bolt.
By using a u joint I may also be able to use a 55 chevy box...early Camaro-Nova and a few Ford boxes.
If your going to do an axle without the forward relocation and are leaving the K frame in place I'd use the stock box in stock location. Eliminate the centerlink and idler arm and run r/h drive from the pitman arm to the RF spindle.
You DO NOT want to use a standard axle and run LH drive as the movement of the suspension introduces torque steer into the equation. As the suspension lifts the wheels automatically turn left.
I planned on drilling the RF spindle and using a heim joint below the spindle for the drag link and a heim above for the steering arm. 5/8" bolt through everything.
The steering and drag link bars need to be of a larger diameter than normal...due to their length they will have a tendency to flex.
