Anyone have a Dealer Promo model car? Are they really worth $300??

These dealer models are priced high on any site I've been to. Don't know about the collectible/desirable aspect, but I've never seen one for less than $125.

Yeah...seems to be there are some collectors that think they need to pay high prices. They are kinda rare tho if you look at production numbers. I begged my dad back when the Edsel came out to go and take a look at them because they were giving away a free friction motor model and I liked them back then. Don't know how many were produced but I haven't seen very many. I played with mine until it was totally junk and it didn't take long, just like the real one :D

I've got a really nice 67 Grand Prix and a 66 Galaxie 500 That I scored at an estate auction for $10.

I was n a bidding war with one other guy at $1 per bid, and almost shat when he dropped out.

I'd give the GP a 9 if not a 10. The Galaxie maybe a 6 or 7.

Not sure on Value.

I've got some C3 Corvettes, but thpse are only worth $5-10 each.

I sure would like that 72, but not for three bills plus.

promo models are out there and there are alot that are not that high you just have to search for them:reading:

ehhhh.....nevermind. lol

Wow! Ur gonna actually hold back???? Lol

Not that I plan on buying one of these over priced plastic gems.I was just curious if they really brought that kinda $ . They are neat though. I would much rather have a die cast 72 charger rallye. But I have yet to find a 72 charger anything kit. Just thought it would be cool to display with all my other die cast models. And possibly display with the car if/when I get it done. If anyone knows where I could get a 72 charger rallye model that would be tits.. thanks for all the feedback.

The average price I've seen for a seventies promo is between $50 and $75, with variances for color. I really don't like promos because they were very, very, plain build-ups of mostly Ertl or MPC kits. They are basically the same as buying a kit, building it, then spray painting it all the same color, which is why they look like crap. I've had chances to get 73 and 74 road runner promos but even a novice model builder can make a better model than those.

Here's a built-up 72 that's much nicer and it's only $15. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-DODGE-...787064325?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item4d04720a05

I've never seen the fascination with toy cars when we got the real ones sittin in the driveway. I don't get it. That could be 300 bucks you couldda spent on sumffin real instead of some bullshit.

Bru- that's a 71- the doors are different, plus the hood.
Those are fairly easy to find, and the buit-up ones (numbered limited editions) are VERY NICE and can be had for $20.

Also the 72 promo (and the long out of production and never re-ran kit) has the hidden headlights.
Not to mention the marker lights.

For you 73/74 guys-

...and the Ausie guys- (although pricey for resin)-

I agree with the $300 nonsense. no way would I spend that much on a collectible unless it was something really special or autographed. But I have always liked building models. Model kits are what got me into cars. Back when I was 10-12 years old I bought my first model. It was a 57 corvette convertible. My older brother had a 76 corvette when I was 8 and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. Yeah I was young and dumb. But I have since built several mopar models and a few fords. But I kinda think that these model kits is like a 3D rendering of our projects. Its allot cheaper to paint a $20 plastic car and realize you don't like the color combo then it is a full scale vehicle and cheaper too. Just my opinion. Its sucks that there isn't any 72 rallyes. There are all kinds of 71's but no 72's.

Just for the hell of it...this is like the Pontiac I bought at the estate sale.
Apparently it's a 69 and a Bonneville.
Mine is almost this nice, too.
I think the factory did a fairly good job considering it's molded in color and has only one color of paint for accent.

Kinda surprised at the BIN (no guarantee of sale at that price, but the seller has dozens [including a "10" of this same promo for a hundred $ more] and seems to be all professional about it.)

My grandfather had a 67 4D in turquoise, so it's kinda/sorta got emo value (although IMO the 67 is a cooler body skin)
