Anyone know how many muscle cars are leaving the country?

As far as the seeing less and less affordable Mopars is something I have noticed. Not that long ago (last 10 years) it seemed that you could walk down the street and find lots of cheap Darts, Polaras and even early Barracudas for reasonable $. Now since these shows that show "how easy it is to flip a car" prices (and some of the people) have gone nuts thinking that their old rusted out 4 door or their 2 door Pinto that is crushed like a grape is worth as much as a restored car. It's not the export causing a lack of these cars but the flippers and their shows creating a "false" reality of big, easy money. I say bravo to our automotive brothers in other countries for keeping these cars alive and enjoying them

As far as old cars disappearing, not just the actual muscle cars, but other 2 and 4 door parts cars or potential resto mod cars, I wonder how many were crushed during the mass crush a couple years ago?

Hell, over the past 40 years how many cars have been crushed. Sad. Makes me want to save them all

And the crushing goes on still! Developers buying whole wrecking yards and moving the crushing machines in to clean the land up so they can build a useless office building or a shopping mall that goes broke in a few years!

That being said, I don't understand those who let the car erode into the earth, but again, who am I to judge.(and of course, I don't know you or your cars, so I am not saying that's what you're doing). Not to ruffle any feathers either, but I will have to disagree on the "it's your car do what you want with it" if you're letting it rot away. Not that you do this, Hosehead, it's a general observation. My mom is a chronic hoarder, so I guess I have a personal bone to pick on this sort of thing... but anyone who lets a car just rot away is an ***. I know how easy it is to slow down the damage that time will do on a car. Raise it up on blocks and cover it. Better yet, put it inside if possible. That's it. If you can't be bothered to even do the minimum to keep a car from rotting away, then you deserve to have people give you a hard time about it. Sure, it's your car, and you CAN let it rot away, but then people CAN rag on you, knock on your door, call you an idiot for wasting a car that could be saved, driven, shown, enjoyed in some way.

Look at it this way- almost every car manufactured today looks the same as any other. Our cars look different, drive different, hell- even smell different! They represent a very important part of this country's history, and best of all, you can DRIVE them! Letting them rot away is like wasting a piece of history, in my opinion. Rant over.

Oh, and in regards to the original post- guess I'm OK with Mopars leaving our shores, but I gotta be honest and wish they'd get taken care of here so we can see more out on the roads...

No worries Pabster, we totally agree. I was just making a point to trimmer on my hoarder comment. I have a friend who has about 35 cars. He has his high dollar, restored cars in a building and a bunch of unrestored cars outside. The outside cars have tarps, covers and tie downs on the covers. I think he is preserving his cars appropriately. I don't understand how he will ever get to doing all those cars, but hey that's none of my business. His collection is not rotting into oblivion.(being in Southern California helps). Personally, I would sell 80% of them and have a few real nice cars, but again, that's just me. I think we all seem to agree that we don't mind where the cars are or how many someone has as long as they aren't being destroyed, right? No feathers ruffled here!

Sell it abroad, restore it, let it rot away etc. I understand we are all in the same hobby, but I still have a problem with our "national treasures" going out of our country, and possibly never returning for our future generations. When they are gone, they are gone. Maybe come up with a "Muscle Car Export License", just like an out of state hunting permit. Limit the number and type of cars leaving, so they will not become "extinct" in this country. Not trying to "ruffle" any feathers, just my 2 cents.

The whole world should be able to enjoy our cars, it's a global market.. Hell we exported 1000's of them back in the day... But to each their own.... I know of a few, that have comeback too, after being overseas for decades...

Don't think any Yanks are going to pay Aussie prices for Mopars down under when we can get them here cheaper. Not to mention paying for shipping on top, which must be insane cash.

Just look at the "For Sale" forum. I noticed almost a half a dozen cars being sold out of country in just the last couple of weeks. I dont think anyone actually realizes what the numbers really are. So sad.
