What air cleaner are you using? For some reason I just cant seem to get the right bottom plate for my 14" set up..hood wont close unless I rake up the back of the hood. There is a Edelbrock 4bbl sitting on top with a 1/2" spacer/heat resitant gasket

I have the power air topper and a 2" element but tried 3 different bases now can't seem to find the correct one, has anyone had to just modify one to fit?

looks silly. with the rear of the hood up and 1 1/2"

Yes, in fact I had clearance issues with a 383 which is shorter than the 440... I just finally gave up and went with the Eddy dual plane instead. More torque, less HP. That was on a 70rr.

Look around for a 1 or 2 inch drop carb base, keep all of the top, u just need a drop base for it to fit!

I found a edelbrock 14" by 1" drop base. Dented the kick down are and the elect. Choke area and fits fine now. Had to by the whole set for $34.00 from o'rileys so if anyone needs a 14" part element and top let me know.

Yep me too...Had to use a specter drop base...Then a low profile k&n..

Update: Since my trans shifts better in manual mode and never really kicked down anyway I took the kick down rod off the linkage. if fact at one point I had punched the gas and it got stuck on the air cleaner and almost went postal on me so it's gone and there is no effect.

Now if I could just find a 1" element I think it would be fine.
