I was just curious if anyone is running pillar post gauges. I'm in the process of adding a Tachometer to my Plymouth and would like to see some different options you might have chosen for your ride. I'm still looking at all possibilities/locations from the 2" to the 5" Tachometer. Thanks MMG

'A' pillar gauges....a lot of the ricers and diesel pickup guys run them. Don't think I'd like it on my old 66 Belvedere tho. It's ok on the newer junk but to me, it looks out of place on the old junk. :)

i agree

Agree x2 on the look. Kind of similar to mounting a big GPS on the dash.

I did experiment with fit for my RR, and nothing could be made to fit to my liking.

I agree with the above comments.

I struggled with what to do on my 1966 with the guages and tac. Old scholl was to put the tac on either the sterring column or top of the dash for easy to read and still have your eyes on the road and put the temp and oil pressure under the dash. To me, it is just as importsant to have those two guages in better sight and down low where you have to move your eyes to far from the road at speed. I did not want all of that on top of the dash blocking some of the road view so I opted for for having a custom steering wheel "pod" that hoses all.

This is the best picture I have of it, and it houses white faced AutoMeter gauges.

The guy that built it for me mis-understood how I wanted it mounted and built it to mount on top of the column in front of the speedo. The speedo could not be read and I just rotated it 90 degrees. That is why it is notched in the middle as it was clearenced for the dash frame.

Sorry, 696pack I don't like that any better than the pillar gauges. I think I like the pillar ones better.

My old instrument cluster was crap to say the least, so I built a new one from scratch. The dots in the four corners (colors not clear in pic) are the high beam/alt and indicator lights, tac will be in the consul as per factory.

Hey no problem here, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that is what the original poster wanted to know. If he like the pillar pods then he should use them.

I am happy with my set up and I am the one that paid for them and the only one I have to satisfy. When I sell it if the buyer doesn't like it he can change it. It is a simple clamp on that has not modified the car.

Our tach is where the left visor is suppose to be. Back when it was a track only car we needed it where we didn't have to look down at it.

Now that we are making it streetable again, I'm not sure if we are going to keep it there.

The only pic I could find with the tach was taken about a week ago while we were documenting the body and paint process.

EDIT: Here is the gauges on the dash.

I don't think pilar gauges would look good on older cars but who knows..... Gotta be different sometimes..

A pillar gauges

I had them on my 95 Diesel Ram. They are kinda in your line of sight on that truck. Seems like on a strip car they might block view of the tree. Didn`t like them enough to put in the 98 Ram.DK.
