Argentina GTX

I know they look like late 60s early 70s. But if Argentina is anything like Central American countries? More like mid to late 70s? But you got to like their resourcefulness? Making cars with what, and just as important, when, with what they got. I bet the motors (although Chrysler) are also out of date. Like maybe a 360 in that GTX? If anyone finds documentation on these builds? By all means post.

The name GTX [ edit ]
The name of this new product, alluded in part to its origin in the Dodge GT sedan, which would add the letter "X" allusive to the extreme term. At the same time, these acronyms are the meaning of the term G ran Turismo e X tremo, which noted the high performance of this product, which was also a name that was already under the Chrysler USA payroll.

Dodge GTX First Version 1970-1971
The Dodge GTX was launched in late 1970 , as the successor to the Dodge GT sedan. Of this car, the new coupe would inherit almost all of its mechanical solutions, being initially presented with a 6-cylinder inline engine Slan-Power A-119 of 225 cubic inches and capable of delivering a power of 155 HP at 4500 rpm. However, the Chrysler proposal would be complemented by the appearance in the same year of the Dodge GTX V8, which aesthetically was the same as the GTX Slant, with the difference that it was to equip a V10 engine of 5210 cm 3(318 cubic inches), capable of delivering a power of 212 HP at 4400 rpm. Both versions were equipped with 4-speed manual A 230/4 boxes. On the side of the GTX Slant Six, its clutch (of 234.9mm) and its differential were the same as those used in the Dodge GT, while the GTX V8 went on to equip a single-disc clutch dry 266mm in diameter (10.5 " ) and a longer differential.

Evolution and final [ edit ]

Dodge GTX look from 1972 until the end of its commercialization.
The production of these units would remain unchanged until 1972 , when it would be solved to replace the GTX Slant with a more economical version and similar features to the Polara sedan, being called in this case as Polara Coupé. With this determination, the GTX became exclusively equipped with a V8 engine, making it the most powerful vehicle in the entire Dodge range. also receive a new front grille leaving the chrome alloy to happen to have one that combined the plastic sheet, For 1973, the car for this one year was to have the tires painted instead of chrome, and lacked any emblem except for the acronym GTX on the grid, were also announced new performance values for the GTX, which became 8.5: 1 to 8.8: 1 in compression, from 42.6kgm (SAE) at 2600rpm to 47.6kgm (SAE) at 2000rpm in torque and from 212HP (SAE) to 230HP (SAE) at the same rate in terms of power. At the same time, from 1974 the V8 engines would start to be imported from Canada , maintaining the values established in 1973, the interior would receive new seats and new upholstery, it would have the classic chromed rims and the GTX emblems in the rear fender, in 1978 the interior would be affected again this time getting wider seats and a new central console, it also receives again new upholstery

Finally, the production of the GTX along with the entire Dodge coupe line, had its end in 1979 , as the first consequence of the sale of the Chrysler-Fevre stock package to Volkswagen , which led to its closure in 1979 and the subsequent constitution of Volkswagen Argentina SA in 1980 . The reason given for advancing the closure of its production, was that of the three lines that were in production (the coupé line, plus the sedan line and the Dodge 1500 ) was the one with the lowest demand that was registered in that year. 3

It was actually base on the Dodge Polara Coupe in Argentina.
The Dodge Polara was a passenger car of the F segment manufactured in Argentina under the Dodge brand by Chrysler-Fevre Argentina SA , It was a full-size passenger car, designed and developed in Argentina for marketing and subsequent export. This car was presented with two types of bodies: sedan and coupe. The sedan was based on the third generation of the Dodge Dart. North American or Valiant already marketed in Argentina, ie the Early A Body platform offered in North America from 1960 to 1966, which was an exclusive design for this market in a first place, obtaining as a final product a sedan of large dimensions and with aerodynamic terminations. For its part, the coupe was also an Argentine development, since its design combined own lines of the Argentine Polara / Coronado.

Although the Polara was the second of a group of models based on the same car, its popularity and level of acceptance would end up becoming the representative model of the so-called " Dodge Line ". As it was said, it was presented in 1968 , to replace the "Valiant Line" , achieving at the same time the unification of the Chrysler-Fevre production under the Dodge brand. This model was the second of a series of vehicles grouped under the name "Dodge Sedan Line", which was started with the model "Dodge Valiant" (base model, later renamed as "Dodge"), being continued by Polara, the "Dodge GT" (sports model)," (luxury model), the " Dodge Taxi " (model destined for use in the taxi fleet) and the " Dodge Polara Diesel " (city version of the Dodge Taxi) 1 For its part, the coupé line would be launched in the year 1970 , presenting the "Dodge Polara coupe" (base model), to then release in 1971 the Dodge GTX (extreme version, optionally equipped with V8 engine) and in 1974 the "Dodge RT" (sports version of the Polara Coupé) " 2
