After changing the water pump seal to one made to handle atf/hydrologic fluid and the hoses and bypass... running no heater box and lines but that should work with upgraded hoses also And a brass valve.... it won't boil over and transfers heat good.... the only down side with a blown head gasket you could run off the fluid if used in a diesel engine.... mineral oil will also work like it did in turn of the last century heavy equipment and trucks...

Water has about four times as much thermal conductivity as oil does. You'd need a far bigger radiator, and still risk hot spots in the heads. About the only liquids that conduct heat better than pure water are salt water which I wouldn't recommend, or mercury which would have it's own set of problems. Stick with what's known. :)

You people shouldn't be allowed to smoke pot and post. Just like drinking and driving.

I ran atf as coolant in a 427 Chevy truck motor that liked to run around 260 to 300 degrees Chicago rawhide made the seal for the pump.... it did have a huge radiator from a cat diesel...... just thought there was a racing application and the 427 ran for 10 years every day and only shut down for oil changes once a month.in a home made Pulp wood yarder

Had a lot of used atf on hand and it was the only thing that wouldn't boil over. There is a lot of back woods fixes that one might not have considered just to get out of a pinch... or when times are tough making it happen with what was laying around.

I'm still trying to figure out which side of the bell curve you're on, cuz you're not in the center.

I gotta agree as I am still trying to figure out what language that first post was in. LoL ! Ron

That's just crazy talk.

Woodsman engineering. When you have little money and remote places you get by.. ? just throwing out ideas. Like running a turn of the century continental kerosene engine making cedar shingles... leather belt driven stuff I was 10 and my uncle was in his 80's he learned stuff like this from great depression serving with the civilian construction corps. I learned quick and some of this stuff like acetylene motors and sutch.... May be bizarre to most but there maybe something useful information there. Like cutting steel pipe with a chain saw......

Remind me to never lend you a chainsaw. Or a motor. Or an acetylene torch. Or...

How bout a Browning box lock M2-50cal.... ran those in the marines till the barrels turned a glowing emerald green and shortly after you could see the bullets running down the barrels one got stuck and after 3 more a base ball sized molten steel went down range until it baked off the rest of the rounds..... ain't war just hell!

I didn't serve in Vietnam but I did serve with 3rd force service support group 3rd support battalion bravo and Charlie company, and with air delivery platoon 93-95 as a 1371 primary mos and 0481 secondary after a month on island at camp foster Okinawa.... and I was a m60 gunner (not a door gunner) and it was in Chinook 46 &53 helos.... Red Patchers... service and support of army navy air force marine and other government agencies and Japanese, Thai ROC marine.

If the race track knows you have ATF in your radiator they will ask you to leave! Our track had a strick policy of water only in race vehicles.
