Wow! I must have missed this! I never saw or read that the Neo Nazi's who were marching with Swastika's on there arm, chanting openly hateful things about Jews now are reportedly vandalizing national monuments.

McCain was not a hero. He was a warrior and a patriot, but not a hero. That word is thrown around way too frequently and freely. I in no way disparage McCain, he is a better man than I for what he endured, but being captured does not a hero make. Sorry, but even with all his attributes and accolades, McCain is no Audie Murphy. The only thing they have in common is that they served their country in a time of war.

My uncle spent about two years or so as a POW in Germany. As the allies closed in the Nazi guards moved them and at that point he and others made there escape into the German countryside during the winter months.
Only at his wake did another POW tell the horrendous conditions, the starvation, the bitter cold, lack of decent clothing during the few weeks he spent hiding and running trying to avoid being recaptured, which would have meant facing the firing squad..
Sorry if we disagree but my uncle while not a Audie Murphy is a hero to me, his children and all who knew him.
