Is the AVS carb base gasket between the carb and the standard iron manifold an ordinary thinner paper style gasket or one of those thick heat isolated type ones.
What was fitted by the factory?

What year car? They are different. 1968-69 thin paper like a cereal box. 1970-71 is thick, at least 5/16 to 3/8”. The stock choke won’t work with the wrong thickness gasket.

(RANT) Why don’t people say what year and model of car they are working on. Many many times a question is asked and no car Infos to properly answer the question. Why?

It is a 1968. Sorry forgot about that detail, slipped my mind.
From your info I have the correct gasket thanks.

I always squint at their avatar, lol. Looks like that's not helping this time.

Agreed....Not long ago I pointed out a rant for people to research things.....Doing such is a learning tool and one can also learn something unrelated to their search...

To the OP 68 used the thin carb gasket originally....If not staying original a phenolic spacer is a good idea to use. That is if it works with your carb/air cleaner height to hood clearance....

Thanks for the replies.
R413 thanks for the tip about the divorced chokes - makes sense.
The factory service manual did mention the gasket but no info or illustrations in the engine or fuel sections. I guess in 1968 they just assumed what you were working on actually was stock standard and would be able to see what you needed.
The car runs sweet and the original choke is connected and working - so no need to change anything.
