Axle gaskets

So I recently purchased these after having to replace the inner axle seal
I originally had a company in Ft Worth do the axle during the resto process.
I believe it was put together wrong.
The metal gasket was on the outboard side of the backing plate in between the axle assembly
Doesn’t it go between the backing plate and axle and the foam one go on the outboard side.
Which way does the bead on the metal gasket… does it face in or out?

Bead doesn't really matter, but I put the "male" side against the housing.

This has been beat to death. It’s really doesn’t matter. It’s your preference. I always put the raised part so it is facing me. Ut if u buy steel shim head gaskets 1 is right side up and the other is right side down. Kim

The bead faces the housing
flange. (inward). This is an
age old debate. The bead
acts as a seal against the
housing flange surface and
is crushed slightly upon
tightening. Hard to explain,
but it acts as kind of a dam
where the oil collects only
at the beads, instead of
across the entire flange
surface.
