Working on an 8 3/4 rear for a guy. Trying to remove the axle seals. They will not move. I ended up breaking my seal puller. I took a slide hammer that i have & made a hook for it but no go. Anyone ever have the same problem ?

Just need a bigger hammer. I’ve had some put up a fight like that. Keep waling on them, they’ll pop out. Have fun driving the new ones in.

Easy as one two three if you've got the pumpkin out..

Try an internal puller attachment for your slide hammer. Plus, make sure that your slide hammer is large enough. I have a 2 1/2 LB for simple tasks and a 5 LB for stubborn pulls.

Have a 2 1/2 lb & have a puller like that. Just not sure it has a way to attach the slide hammer. Havent used the puller for a while.

I have a seal installer from harbor freight & never had a problem. Never had a problem taking them out either. So this could be a first.

Mine threads on to the end of the hammer. I have the OTC set that comes with 8 or 9 different pullers ranging from a pilot bearing puller all the way up to hub pullers and inner and outer bearing pullers.

I chisel a slit in them and then pull out with a vice grip and pry bar. Be careful not to scratch the housing internal.

My installer is piece of pipe with a plate welded on either end and a 3 lb hammer.

Thanks 493 mike finally a mechanic answered correctly.

No special tool needed for removal of seal the answer is in your hand

Also you can make a cheap install tool
10" of 2 pvc with a glue cap or coupler on the end makes a dandy install tool.
