I’ve seen the Enginemasters test of RB intakes, and how well the 6 pack intake works compared to newer manifolds, am I safe to assume the Edelbrock 383 6 bbl intake will work as well? I’m building a 470 cu in 400 with TFS 240 heads and the TFS hydraulic roller cam and have a chance to pick one up. I had a 440 6bbl in the past and really liked the way it ran.
 
Step one is the manifold.
I have no experience with the 383 version, but I think it's probably pretty good.... (My experience is with the 440 version.)
but I honestly don't think it's superior in any way to the newer manifolds for low deck motors. I think they could run as well, with a large single 4bbl as the Sixpack for considerably less money.
How much is eyewash worth to you?
Edit: I'd run the track heat, with a 850-1050 4150 double pumper.
 
There was a few guys here that mentioned on 600hp builds, the 6 pack was down about 25hp.
Even if they were the same, I wouldn't want the extra cost and headaches. In all fairness, I wasn't around when they were new to get caught up in the hype.

Never said it was superior, but it doesn’t leave much of n the table. I have the track heat intake, but the 6 pack will fit under the stock hood.
 
My 68 383 Dart is now a 400 based 451 stroker with the Eldebrock low deck 6bbl intake. It fits under the stock hood. No dyno runs with the 4bbl or the 6bbl setup, but seat of the pants tells me there is no comparison. I have run both on this car and now have a convertor (not installed yet) to make the 6bbl manageable on the street.

I would hope no one would buy a 6 pack set-up because they believe it the best hp/$ spent or best at anything for the money spent.

Certainly no one manifold is an end all for everything. But I don’t think there is any manifold that works as well in such a larger power range. It will work well on a 300 hp engine, and give up very little at 575 hp.

If your goal is max power on a drag car the six pac will never be the best $/hp.

Okay, that's a good reason.
Another good reason is having a set of carbs in good shape.

I have a 440 manifold that needs a little work. So I decided to see how cheap I could put together some carbs .
Even with cut-up Chinese two barrels (WAY cheaper than the real thing!) and adding in the bowls that would need changing, throttle linkage, fuel lines, air cleaners (even a plastic repop), it made NO monetary sense to spend that kind of money to break even performance-wise with what was already in use. Which is why i asked how much eyewash is worth to you.

I would build the motor and get it broke in 1st before the candy.
