I really need to get my exhaust squared away. Right now I have a 318 in a 67 belvedere with the stock manifolds and the rusty remnants of the old pipe under the car.

Planning to remove the manifolds (should be fun) and install headers. Where can I find a header back exhaust kit? I don't have a welder and would prefer to do it at home. Been on summit. They used to have kits for everything back in the day. Can find 68 and up. I've seen the pypes kits but they're all crossmember back.

When I restored my '74 Charger SE I did pretty much what you have planed except did not do headers. My Pypes exhaust kit was just like what you see so found a Magnaflow manifold pipe on E-Bay. Notice one there for your Belvedere also. You might need someone to modify that pipe so it could link to your headers. Just depends on what you are installing. Something to think about at least.

Any link to the item? I was thinking something along those line. Just rather not spend all that money on the pypes exhaust then end up spending a bunch for a muffler shop to install it...for that I'll just pull up the the exhaust shop open header and have them do it.

Several choices. You'll need to sort out the ones not for your engine set up.

TTI has manifold back and header back systems. But...header back is only for their headers.

Just checked out their site. Not the worst prices. Seems like you can use other headers and their adapters or do it with the stock manifolds. I'll probably be giving them a call for more details.

Think twice before switching to headers. Not much hp gain, especially on a 318 and they get in the way of plugs, starter, etc.

Think about refinishing your stock manifolds. Probably less than headers costwise too.

If you do go with the TTI exhaust unless you have TTI headers. You will need to have the adaptors welded up to whatever other headers you have. Just did this with my small block 67 with Doug's headers to a TTI Exhaust.

I was thinking to get the summit headers that are under $300. It's a standard 3 bolt flange. I found adapters that should bolt up to the headers, then have welded.

I really miss working as a mechanic lol. This would've been basically free.

Does anybody have a guess of what it would cost to have an exhaust shop just do it custom? I'm think it might be less than alot of these kits. I haven't paid for an exhaust in over a decade though.

I priced custom header back exhaust at a local shop and it was about the same price as the TTI kit. Of course, that was installed and the TTI kit was not. I got the TTI kit and am pretty satisfied with it. The three inch pipes (that you don't need with a 318) are a very tight fit and needed a little tweaking around the gas tank.

That’s the ticket right there. Probably the same as a kit but you don’t have to install.

Yes and no. That I've seen we don't have many exhaust shops that have a mandrel bender and the ones that do charge alot. With these companies I get that. Probably not that big of a deal in the scheme of things but something I was considering.

Keep us posted. I'm interested in knowing what setup you finally decide to go with. My 67 Belv 318 needs the same as yours. It's a back burner project at the moment, but the single exhaust is about rotted off and I'd like to change it to dual exhaust when I get back to working on it.

Good luck with yours.

Anybody have input on crush vs mandrel? I'm assuming on an almost 60 year old engine no biggie right?

Yeah, no biggie. Look at all the systems with crushed corners put on muscle cars for eons.

I would just take it to a muffler shop and have it custom done. Will be cheaper and easier in the end. I went that way with my car too, thinking I could do it myself. Bought a complete header back setup on ebay. We ended up spending two full days cutting, bending and welding to get it to fit correctly. Would never do it that way again.

Look at TTI I put 3 inch on my 68 GTX. Fits better than stock
