I need a heater box for my 69 Charger project. I have found two 66 67 boxes but just not sure if they were the same in these years. Any ideas? Thanks

Yes, they both will swap in. 1966-1969 had both hoses 5/8” diameter. 1970 had one 5/8” and one 1/2”

The 1966 box has some different mounting for the metal brackets that are the pivots for the vents and cables. You cables will hook up. And work fine.

while i agree that the boxes from 1966 to 1970 will physically bolt to the fire wall, i have to disagree that they are all the same. the correct function of the heat blend door will be opposite in the years 1966-1967 compared to 1968 to 1970. what i am saying is cold will be warm and vice versa. also there is a casting difference between those years also.

Hi guys, can someone else confirm this about the heat blend door function being reversed? I have a 67 heater box for my 68 charger. I planned to change out the vent cable to match correctly, I didn’t anticipate this issue.

Thanks for your insight.

Contact the heaterboxguy Ritchie would be glad to help out.

this is a view of the blend door bracket for a 1968-1969 (1970 is the same as this but with a different heater core)

here is one for 1967

this way you can see the difference on the orientation of the rod in relation to the cable bracket. you will have the push pull action but the result will be opposite relative to the control (cool versus warm).

there is also a small difference how the box is molded by the defroster tubes but that won't cause any issues.

the 2 from the left which are 1966 and 1967, you see a difference in the box from the other 3 which are 1968, 1969 and the far right 1970.

Thank you very much - this was really helpful! It turns out that my box is a 1966 then - based on the bracket you showed above. Not ideal to have my heater controls reversed. Do you know if anyone has ever modified to correct for this - and/or installed a 68/69 bracket to get the correct motion? The bracket for the 68/69 looks pretty simple to fabricate - that might be something I try.

Welcome any advice. Thanks again

it is not just the bracket. you have to look at the arm and which direction it goes in relation to the box. the 1966 and 1967 arm goes towards the middle of the box and everything later 91968-1970), the arm extends out over the front cover of the box. one on the left is 1968-1970 one on the right is for 1966.

Ah I see now, thanks a lot Mac, great photos, that was very helpful!

I have a heater box from a 69. It's fairly rough but complete.
It's in my garage pulled apart. Everything needs to be soaked and finished, need a gasket set from DMT.
Either of you guys can let me know if you want pics or more info.
Have box, plates / doors, brackets, heater core, fan, temp. sending unit, etc.
